I have no problem with any style of game play the "user" wants to indulge in. If they feel the urge to BJ everyone and stack them like cordwood, that's fine.
If they want to play Texas Chainsaw Killer as they play that's fine also.
It's "your" game, play it any way that suits, or pleases you. I happen to like the limitations of the earlier system that requires that I plan rather than blunder through a mission.
To clarify the above. In FMs, unless you are repeating one, you need to pace yourself and your equipment expenditures. This requires, at least, a minimal effort on the part of the player to think.

But I think it would be most ridiculous to ignore the flaws of TDP/TMA but keep harping on those of TDS which have the same quality – or analyzing things in an imprecise way.
Beleg, I totally get all that. I just simply think that any endeavor to compare Dark Project with Deadly Shadows is doomed from the start!

I just think we (or anyone, e.g. the mysterious Thief IV developers) get in trouble trying to re-create what Thief originally is (and that is apparently highly diverse) if we don't care which things cause which issues. That's why I insist on little details all the time. I still think for TDS its system is the most appropriate (confirmed by the original games when actions took place right after the other, e.g. Precious Cargo, Trail of Blood... and Garrett kept his gear). It also escapes me why the old system encourages you more to "plan rather than blunder through a mission", like Blackman said.
