This will contain some spoilers for Thief II.
I am going to be replaying Thief DS for the third time soon, and I was wondering if there are any sorts of secrets or things a player might have missed, to watch out for?
In Thief II Blackmail, for instance, there is I believe a secret objective where if you place the Sheriff's body inside a grave in a secret area, then some ghosts appear.
In Thief II Framed you can throw a scouting orb over a wall and see some zombies.
This is the sort of thing I am after. Is there anything comparable in Thief DS? Secret objectives, secret rooms, things you can do but might never have realised?

This isn't exactly a secret, but more like something a person might miss: You can be captured, and escape from jail. Easy to miss if you are skilled at escaping danger or simply reload if someone notices you.

Also, if you do go to jail (to loot it, of course,) opening the main gate will allow you to access the prison on the next day, and many of the treasures there will be respawned (as well as much of the equipment.)
You may have to re-open the gate upon journeying back into the prison, though.
Look for spots where your climbing gloves work, there's a few pieces of loot and some equipment scattered in various areas. Some obvious, some not so much.

Yes I knew about Pavelock, although can't remember how I found out. I think I remember falling into the harbour and somehow waking up in jail, but not sure. I may even have deliberately jumped to explore as you might have done in the previous games.
Are there any sort of hidden or secret objective in missions? Like the one in Trail Of Blood where if you collect enough loot a secret objective triggers. Or the aforementioned Truart burial?

Once you have climbing gloves, in Crime Alley, you can climb on a stall roof and then scale a few walls to access the entrance to a secret attic which has a chest with two extra flashbombs.
The attic is located on the storey above the passage you use to enter into crime Alley from South Quarter. The wooden stall you should climb on first is in a corner, close to the entrance, next to that loot and equipment cache hidden behind the movable grating.

I read something interesting about Pavelock. I did not know this:
Quote:
If visiting the prison during the last phase of the game, where Garrett has to put the artifacts in place, the stone gargoyles will appear throughout the prison
Guess I will be waiting until late in the game to visit Pavelock next playthrough.

Given the blurry definition of "secrets", I could add the secret/hidden backdoor of the pub in Old Quarter, the secret door in the house near the Docks gate in South Quarter and the rooftop gas arrow in Auldale right in the middle between the pub and the City gate. A few subtle "paranoia" scripts take care of switching window lights in the City sections on and off depending on the player's behaviour but I'm pretty sure not all of what can be found in T3Ed was actually implemented (e.g. increased guard alertness). Concerning side quests, which are often not overly obvious, cf. the single map/mission entries here: (

Thanks Cúthalion. For clarity I am not asking so much about secret rooms or nooks and crannies if they only contain loot or some other typical item within them.
A secret room containing a burial site where if you place a particular body in it "something happens", is more the sort of thing I was after.
Or Gargoyles in Pavelock Prison, something I never saw in my previous playthroughs, and is the sort of thing a player could easily never discover.
Not that I won't be checking the area you suggest for gas arrows, naturally :)

After completing the St Edgar mission and before entering the Pagan mission, I suppose means that you are on day 3? Assuming that is correct, and that it is the day that is the trigger and not the completing of St Edgar, then on day 3 in Black Alley I discovered three people having a conversation about the Cradle.
One was telling about how they heard the sound of a child crying coming from the place, so they approached to investigate and what happened.
