I installed Thief DS this past weekend and patched it to the 1.1 version, which was the only patch I could find. I am up to the early mission where you need to go to St. Edgars and steal something and go to the Pagan compound in the sewer and steal something. I ended up going to St. Edgars first because it was closer. Anyway I am unable to pick any locks. I verified that I took my lockpicks on the mission but when I walk up to the door and try to use it, it goes into the lock pick animation but the picks never come out. Instead you see the item and weapon displays show up with 'Nothing' under them, like when you have no items equipped.
Needless to say its making it hard to complete the mission because unless the door is already unlocked I cant go through it.
Is there a fix anyone knows to resolve this? Or I guess at this point maybe I need to use a no-clipping cheat just to get through the door to finish the mission.
It is frustrating, I am a fan of the first Thief games and was really looking forward to playing this but now I am stuck on one of the first missions.
Any help would be appreciated.

This is on the PC version, running WinXP 64-bit.

You can only enter St. Edgars IF there is a blue shining Glyph on the door.
All the main missions are the same in that. You can't pick and choose what to do. Except for the "Get the chalice" and "the Jacknall's paw", the others must be in series.
You can only move on into a particular mission when the Glyph is glowing blue.
You have optional missions, The Inn, Fort Ironwood, for example that don't affect the main game but are yours to do or not.
You DO NOT LOCKPICK THE GATES AT ST. EDGAR'S
To start the missions, or enter a gateway with a Glyph, get close, highlight it and FROB it. If it is time for that mission you will start it, if not check your objectives. Until they are all complete the next mission Glyph will not be active.

After you meet the fence with the Bloodline Opal you have to pick which place to go to. I picked St Edgars. I am on the mission where you need to steal the hammer, and the gold dagger for the other guy in town. On the west side of the church there is the factory area there is inspector drepts(?) room. That was the first time I noticed it. The door was blue and pickable I clicked on it. It went into the lock pick animation but froze. The picks never came out, instead I get the both hands empty icons in each corner.

Inspector Drept is in Auldale, and the mission is much later than St. Edgar's. But...if the lockpicking animation is freezing, or not working right, then that's a technical issue. Since it hasn't happened to me, I'm trying to remember for you if that was an issue solved by DDFix, or not.

Better. Now we know what's up. It sounds like a bug but it's not.
If you are in the area of the head priests quarters, you can't pick that lock. You need to ring the bell. He leaves, and then you can get in. Or you can climb the pipe near the barrack entrance, and climb in the vent.
The door won't open unless he leaves, and it's not DREPP.

Interesting. I'll have to experience it myself so I won't think it's a bug when it happens to me!:laff:

Rock mentioned the West of the Cathedral in the factory. Inspector Drept does indeed have a room just near where the zombies in the cells are.
As to the problem, I have no solution.

Its actually the chest inside the priests room. I restarted the mission, same problem. I had a save just before I entered St. Edgars. Tried that and ran through quick to find the picks still werent working. Also the door that is near that curved staircase leading to the priests room, its off to the right with a guard under a torch. I may have to delete my saves all together and start over, not that its far in. Or maybe a reinstall?

There was no DDfix for Thief 3, was there...? :weird: IIRC it was a matter of Vertical Sync if the lockpicking didn't work, but I wasn't sure about this so I didn't post yesterday.
