Kafka, I have the same exact problem you are having. I somehow missed your post and posted a thread of my own on this issue. I'm running a very similar rig, AMD X2 4200, 1GB ram, ASUS A8N5X MB, ATI X1800 XT graphics card.
I've tried all the mentioned possible fixes but none have worked. I'm going crazy trying to figure this out myself. If I ever do find a fix I'll post it, but I'm thinking perhaps it may have something to do with the dual processors only because it seems to be that the problem is that the menu and movie are running simultaneously which in my head may translate that one process is being run by one processor and the other by the other processor. Just a thought...

hello every one i've got the same problem here with a 3800 X2
it's undoubtedly a problem with dual core processing
the patch from microsoft witch resolve some problem with game as flatout or gta sa is not working for this one
you need to set affinity of t3.exe and t3main.exe on only one core
the problem for me was that when i define it on the task manager, i cant come back to thief 3 :erg: (graphic hangup)
so i tried another thing : i go to thief 3 shortcut property on my desk and define "execute this program in compatibility mode for windows 98"
and it works!
windows 98 compatibility mode set the program on the core 0 only so problem is gone! :thumb:
thief 3 run likes a charm now and i can play again
