I was trying to play Thief DS again on my Vista laptop and managed to get it working fine except I am having some problems with lockpicking.
Everytime I try to lockpick a door/chest, the tools weapons icons on the HUD become empty as usual, I get the usual sound of equipment being removed/stored and then Garrett just bobs a few times towards the door for 5 seconds or so and then without the lockpicking initialising, garrett goes back to his 'normal' state with weapon out or whatever. Sometimes after a few bobs towards the door lockpicking does initialise and works as normal but this is very rare.
Is this a known issue? Are there any fixes I can try? I have the patch installed and no mods.

This could be vertical sync - check its on as T3 has problems with it when its off

Vsync was off. I turned it on and the chance of succeessfully lockpicking doors increased a decent amount but chests are still next to impossible and the vsync makes the game a bit juddery while walking and turning. Even the successful lockpick attemps still take 5-10 seconds to engage so it is still an issue.

might I suggest a complete uninstall and reinstall of the game..

I just tried that. It did not help. Could it be a graphics driver issue?

Possibly, what card have you got and what driver version are you using..? also what windows version you using..?

In addition to enabling Vsynch, make sure you have Bloom disabled.

Hey sorry for taking so long to get back.
Im using Vista Home Premium 32 bit with a 8800M-GTX, its a laptop card.
Disabling Bloom helped a LOT. Its still not as repsonsive as it was on my older xp system but it works at the least and is playable now. I had to DISABLE VSync because it made walking and turning very jittery.
