Are there any community made walkthroughs yet? I know we've got the compendium, and there are the usual generic walkthroughs at gamespot and whatnot, but are there any good guides yet made by someone who knows the history of the game and story? I remember seeing an excellent one on a Russian site (with English translation) about six months after release but I can't find it now. I'm considering creating some to add to the others in the Keeperchapel but I if there's already something better out there I don't want to waste the time.

I still think the official guide from PRIMA is the best. Spent about 10$ fr it.

Sure, but does it point out references to past games, fan mods, and easter eggs? Most of all - is it free?

I was just saying that it is MY favorite resource. It's really a nice guide, and I believe it was well worth the $. Just thought I'd pass on a recommendation from one Thief fan to another...

I was actually anticipating a Keeper Chapel update not long after Thief 3 was released; I even had a thread on it. I figured the reason you didn't do it was that the game didn't do all that much for you (guessing that's changed). It'd be great to see the premier walkthrough resource for Thief rounded out to include the entire series.
(

I think the only real advantage to the way I do them is the lootmaps. I thought I saw something like that floating around for T3 right after release, but I can't find it now.
I'm replaying T3 now that I haven't played the orginal game in a while, and I find I'm quite enjoying it. I'd like to do a good set of lootmaps and walkthroughs after the holidays if I have time, if nothing else just to round out Keeperchapel. Looks like T2X could use a similar treatment.

That would be great if you could swing it, Fett.

I was just digging around in the maps folder out of curiosity. What the hell kind of files are those? .gmp, .ibt ? Anybody have a clue how to open those in a draw program?
jtr7 on 16/10/2007 at 04:37
The maps folder contains the actual game missions. Garrett's Hand-Drawn maps are *.dds files in the X:\Thief3\CONTENT\T3\PCTextures\DynamicallyLoaded folder. If you had T3Ed installed you could see the Hand Drawn maps in the Texture Browser, which is loaded and opened by default when you start T3Ed.
Upon the advice of our fellow taffers, I downloaded DDS_Viewer.exe and wtv_v069b.zip. I can't remember where from, but they work. With these two programs I go into the aforementioned folder and double-click on the *.dds files to view them, and I can see preview *.dds files in my folders' Thumbnail view.
WTV lets you open and view the files.
DDS_Viewer let's you see them in Thumbnail view.
The files are named "HDMAP_*.dds".
No matter how I view them, I still have to alt+print screen them and paste them into Paint or Photoshop, etc., to edit them.
