Thief: DS .. wierd Run / Walk problem... - by dalten

I'm trying to play Thief DS again but I'm experiencing the wierdest problem. Garrett won't stay in run-mode... Basically I start a level or load a game and when i start to move at first, everything is normal. Within about 4 seconds, garrett seems to go into CREEP mode. Everything else around me appears to move at their normal speed. The guards, cat in the training mission for example all appear to be properly animated. The framerates stay solid. This is driving me crazy. I've installed the latest DirectX, updated my Via motherboard drivers, done all windows updates, updated catalyst drivers. I'm stumped. I even unbound the Creep and Walk in the keybindings.
Everytime I load a game, everything is normal until I move about 10 feet and then garrett slows way down again.
AMD X2 4200 (i run the game with CPU affinity set so it only uses 1 CPU).
ATI x1950pro 512
2 gigs of RAM
windows XP Pro
Any tips?

I have bought a PC of equivalent configuration not long ago, and while playing TDS, I came across different problem - I couldn't pick locks on chests. When I aproached a locked chest and clicked on it, Garrett moved to the chest to start picking the lock and he froze in the middle of the move. The game went on normaly, but I was unable to leave that spot. I was reasonably pissed, tried to taff with various settings, but nothing helped. But when, as a desperate last move, I turned VSync on and all problems disappeared. Maybe decreasing framerate from 150 or so to 70 fps - sync rate of normal LCD could help you as well. I guess the game isn't meant to run at these high speeds...

Thanks for the tip however I already had vsync on in game. I tried to force it on in the drivers but that didn't change anything. I also tried it off, lowering the resolution, nada helping yet. Anything else I should try?

Well, I have the exactly same graphic card, so I figure the problem could be caused by your AMD processor. My comp has processor from Intel and apart from that chest problem, the game works quite fine. I recall seeing number of fixes for various games that were meant to fix problems with dual core AMDs. You might want to try look for some and see if they can fix the issue. Also, you could (if you can minimize the game that is) try to run the game on one core only - using taskmanager's hyperthreading setting. You should find more info in FAQ section of this forum. This step is necessary when running TDP and TMA on dual cores and might even help here...
