It's always nice to hear about new projects in the works. Good luck.:D
I take it that you are working with the T3 engine?

Thanks mate!
We're actually working with the Source engine.

Didn't we just have this thread?

Source engine?
OK...please forgive my ignorance. I take it "Source" is a proper name like "Dark Engine" was for the first two thief games.
Could you tell us a bit more about it? What else was made with it?
I know a lot about Thief and working with DromEd but know very little about the working of the gaming world outside of this little corner of the web.

Dude, are you serious? The Source engine is what an obscure little game by the name of "Half-Life 2" uses.
And to answer my own question, (
http://www.ttlg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=105446) yes, we have had this thread before.

Oh, I see what you mean - You were thinking Source engine as in the original engine. :)
The Source engine was created a few years ago, originally used in 32 Game of the Year award winner "Half-Life 2". It has also been used in a large number of Half-Life mods, such as "Day of Defeat: Source", or "Counter Strike: Source". The source engine provided intense graphics, amazing physics, high-quality sound, and HDR lighting.
While I did notice there was a previous post about such a project, that was a Multiplayer game, where as this is simply a Singleplayer continuation of the Thief storyline. We have no affiliation with the previous people who posted here.
Map editing for the Source engine uses a program called "Hammer", made by Valve. Though I believe older versions of this are free to download, the newest (constantly being updated) version is accessable through the Source SDK (which includes many other helpful tools and resources), included in any purchase of Half-Life 2. Personally, I would say that the Hammer editor is many many times easier to use then DromED, but I suppose if you're very skilled with DromED, it might take a bit of getting used to.
While I can't reveal the whole storyline of Thief: Transgressions, I'll say this much:
After the events of T: DS, the Master Thief took on an apprentice (yes, you know of whom I speak), in which whom he saw much potential. But when his past comes back to haunt him, it meddled with things and people that it should not have... And the Thief will not hold back the hell they unleash.
This isn't a mass murder game, don't worry, it's going to be firmly following the
Thief style - stealth.
Thanks for your interest! If you have any more questions, feel free to ask.

You are aware of (
http://www.thedarkmod.com/) The Dark Mod, yes?
Assuming you're serious, and that your goal is to reproduce classic single-player Thiefy gameplay, then it seems as if the taffer community would be better served by your team joining the Dark Mod. Thief has always been a fringe game, so the less fracturing of fan effort, the better.

You should at least talk to the Dark Mod people. All the time spent getting thief-gameplay functionality on Source ... you could just coattail on what they've already done for the last year or 2 and already start mapping the game outright right now with the resources they have now on the Doom3 engine (what they're calling betamapping). It would save you at least a good 2 years in development time (unless you're simply not serious about thief gameplay and you're just going to wedge it into HL2 gameplay, in which case, uhmm... are you sure that's going to work?)
At least it's a little better than that other project because it's a creative project that has its own unique contribution. It's easy to support you on that point. It's just ... Source ...

In the name of all that is holy. We went through all of this nonsense with the "Unforseen Consequences" Mod...and it caught me on a bad day too!
A few points to ponder if you're serious about making this mod.
1. You can not call your mod "Thief". You will find yourself 'sued'.
2. You can not use Thief images. ( You're website has Garrett on it) Again, you will face the threat of legal action.
3. The source engine is a poor choice for Thief style gameplay...we considered it ourselves at one point. It was great for Half Life 2, but if you seriously want to make dark 'thief style' levels, go with the Doom 3, Quake 4, or the upcoming Prey. All of them make use of the Doom 3 engine.
4. As Zylonbane already said...and I quote "Thief has always been a fringe game, so the less fracturing of fan effort, the better." We've been working on Dark Mod, "A single player 'Thief Styled/ Inspired' Mod", for over 2 years. If you have a team of professional quality, dedicated artists, then help us out...but for heavens sake, there is absolutely no need to make the exact same type of mod in a separate engine. This community could do better if it worked together on 'one' goal.
