Thank you for your concern, and the information.
"Thief Transgressions" is not using the "Thief" title (copywrited by Eidos) nor any of Eidos' copywrited names, or images. Anything that is used in conjunction is protected by Fair Use rights. "Thief Transgressions" is technically a standalone game, you may even call it "the first installment". While the storyline is inspired by the "Thief" series, the two are -technically- seperate, for copywrite purposes. We don't want any conflict, so we're trying to keep it all clean and safe.
As far as twisting the Source engine into Thief-like gameplay, we have a few tricks up our sleeve... While it will be a challenge, of course, we have confidence. The Doom/Quake engines, unfortunatly, do not have the ability to do many of the things we have in mind.
Incorperation with the Dark Mod would be a wonderful idea, as it would increase productivity in the way of mods... but it appears we have two different end-goals. Though I personally would love to contribute to The Dark Mod, I think the incorperation of the two would be more like the disintegration of Thief Transgressions. Perhaps not, but that's just my current perception.
I agree, that where possible, Thief modders should group together and direct effort together, it would appear we have two rather different ideas.
And yes, I am serious. ;)

If you do manage to pull it off, GarrettLoader already supports Half Life 2 Maps and its dead simple to create a reference file for Half Life 2 Mods for GL as well so you wouldn't need to worry about how to install maps for it.

Am I missing something here? Or are you. The "Title" you are using
"Thief Transgressions" does use the copyrighted THIEF in the title.
Unless you are merely mentioning thief as a similar game, your title cannot start with THIEF: and not violate copyright.

The colon is superfluous, perhaps you could call it a run of the tongue.
As for "Thief" being the first word in the title, this is not a problem... For example, Star Wars and Starcraft. Age of Empires and Age of Mythology. The Godfather and The Elder Scrolls. Battlefield and Battlefront. Chaos League and Chaos Legion. Charlie Sheen and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Evil Dead and Evil Genius. Zoo Keeper and Zoo Tycoon. Super Army War and Super DBZ. Shadow of Destiny, Shadow of Rome, Shadow of the Colossus, Shadow Ops, Shadow the Hedgehog, Shadowbane, ShadowClan, Shadowgrounds, and Shadowrun. How about the 1971 show aired on TV, titled "Thief"... or the TV show running this year, "Thief"?

thieftransgressions - they're trying to help. Maybe it could have been said nicer, but your responses seem pretty dense. Have you done ANYTHING on this mod besides think of a storyline? I didn't see anything on that website. And who's "we"? Is there really anyone besides you?
Hey, we're all Thief fans and would love a full-on Thief inspired Source mod, but I'd be seriously willing to bet $1000 on 1 to 10 odds (so that if I win I only gain $100, but would lose the whole $1000 if I lose) that this will never see the light of day.
I realize that may sound very rude, but my point is just that you have not convinced me, nor anyone here, that this is a good idea, or that you can do it. I'm still open to the possibility, but your response in the thread illustrates a hard-headedness that is anathema to it.
Good luck, I guess
BTW, you MIGHT get away with your title IF the game plays NOTHING LIKE Thief, but if the gameplay is very close to Thief (which is the whole idea) the you will definitely be in copyright infringement territory with a name like that. Your rediculously long list of counterexamples all don't count.

Well, I tried to warn you. As I said, we've been working on The Dark Mod for well over two years now, but even we had better sense going into our project than to put Thief 'anything' in the name of our project. If you're serious, you will take my advice!

What don't you think the Doom/ Quake engines can do? The SDK is fully available and there is nothing you can do in Thief that we haven't been able to do in Dark Mod. Again, your dismissing what I've already said...we looked into using Source and the Doom 3 engine proved to be the best engine for any thief styled gameplay...hands down.

I don't see how this would be the case. We're building a toolset, not a campaign...if you applied to help us finish the toolset...you could help finish it, while you use it. Of course, we would like to see some proof that your team is actually capable of creating professional quality custom textures, models and maps. It's true that we are selective about who gets in, but we only want the best for the community.

Where do our ideas diverge? You want to create a Thief inspired Mod in Source...that will require 'totally' revamping the source engine...effectively, creating a completely new toolset. We on the other hand are simply creating the toolset, so Fan Mission authors, like yourself, can create their own campaigns and stand alone Thief inspired missions. The concepts are practically identical...with the exception that we are not currently focussing on the campaign....our primary goal is to finish the toolset. You're just starting, so you have at least 4 to 5 years of development ahead of you. We, on the other hand, have roughly 1 1/2 to 2 years of development before we release the toolset and we'll have several stand alone missions completed by our beta mappers, at the time of release.

I suspect, squarely at the point where he'd no longer be in charge.
I'll reserve a spot for Thief: Transgressions on fuckedmod.com.

:D Heh, I should have seen that one myself.

I apologize if my responces seem dense - I very much appreciate your advice, and I am acting according. Believe me when I say it is important to me. Komag, I thought the same, but now I see that I will find no support here. Thank you for the information that has been provided. I, and the other members (Yes, there are 8 of us), wish for no hard feelings between us and the modding community... We just figured you might be as enthusiastic about it as we are.
Farewell, and thanks once again.

Where did the 8 of you come from? Thief fans not at TTLG???
