I haven't seen any news on ttlg about Open Dark Engine. But, according to:
(
http://sourceforge.net/projects/opde)
the activity percentile from last week is 80.65. I don't know what that number means (people who visit that page, # of cvs commits, etc.) and the forums/mailing list (archives) don't seem to be past January. Hopefully this project won't be another dead end.

Dromed central helped me alot, I probably used over a hundred different tutorials from there. thats where you'll find what's closest to the bible:p

Yknow sparhawk i went back and tryed that part out with the magnetic arms and i saw that error! I couldnt belive they did fake the shadows too!
It's easy. They created a game, not an engine. :) For the game it is valid to fake everything that saves time and performance. This was yet another reason, why we NOT switched to HL2 as our platform. Looks is nothing, but you must take the technical capabillities into account, from the engine you want to use, and the requirements of your game. And from this, I don't think HL2 would be very suitable for a Thief style game. Maybe you can hack in the shadows, but I doubt it. This needs to be supported by the renderengine.

I guess the high paced action distracted me from the awful truth :p.
As many others. I always have to snicker, when I see new threads about new games and people start to say things like "This game would be THE perfect candidate to mod Thief into it." Most seem to assume that if a game features a few medivieal style textures and models, that this is enough to warrant a Thief style ameplay, while there are a lot of other issues, that must be possible to make it work. I bet you can mode ANY kind of game int looking like Thief, because textures and models are the easy part. It's the gameplay that matters though.

Reqirements are a huge factor when it comes to distributing an FM(s) to many people. For Ex. Taking the FEAR engine and converting it to Thief? I would have to say hell no to that, because i stick to the little guys on the requirements part. I mean, there arnt alot of people who play thief on a 3Ghz Athlon64 w/ 2 gigs of RAM! (well mabey a few people). And once again the Dark Engine conquers all :cheeky:. Via Low Requirements. And the levels can be HUGE too cause it isnt all about "OMG the graphics are godly!", But there is a sence of Quality about it :) . And the Dark engine is well.......Dark! :laff:
