I agree, Final Fantasy does suck, but I don't see how that's relevant here.

Back to the topic at hand:
After playing HL2 and using the source engine, I too had the notion to create a thief inspired mod. This was because I had just played Thief DS a fifth time through. I wanted to create new stories or revitalize the old story line with updated graphics and AI. I also thought that there were many ways in which the gameplay of Thief DS could be enhanced.
Several factors stopped me from following through on such a vague goal:
1. I had none of the expertise needed for such a large project. I am only one person who while being somewhat computer savy, is not a programmer, or modeler by proffesion. I realize that does not mean I could not learn on my own, but I did not have the massive amount of freetime it would take to pick up such a hobby.
2. I did not have enough motivation. As an architectural student I realized that what i really wanted to do was use an advanced toolset to map. I didnt want to reinvent the wheel, I just wanted a better canvas with which to create.
3. The community was not ready for my idea. At this time the Thief DS toolset itself was just about to be realeased. I saw that regardless of whether I thought my idea had merit. Everyone else would want to try out the current editor to see what it could do. I know I am great:cheeky: but it was obvious that the communities support would be crucial for any large undertaking. (I don't know if the dark mod was being proposed at that time or not. Can someone tell me?)
Then someone posted that the maps for Thief DS were really small because they had to fit on an XBOX dvd. I was like "forget this" and downloaded the T3 editor.
The point is that I thought beyond my personal wants and desire before commiting to and announcing a large project. After analysing the situation I concluded that it was not the time for my idea. This guy seems to have done the opposite, he announced a huge plan without considering the feasability of his idea.

We started our project, approximately half a year, before the T3 editor was released.

This whole thread is so strange. The guy never explained exactly what it was that the Doom 3 engine couldn't do.
Maybe it was a prank.
Yknow, how many people are asking us to pull their finger on these projects that disapate like a fart. seriously....:nono:

 Didn't somone already propose a Thief inspired HL2 mod?
I think it was called Shadow:Source, and if i remember currectly, it fizzled as well. At least the website isnt active anymore.
Although, unlike this mod, it was greeted a little differently. It looks like the ppl that posted were more interested than antogonistic.

Nevermind, it looks like they tore that mod a new one as well. For much the same reasons as this one.

Yup, and it's for the same reasons too. Why start another total conversion, when you can help finish one that is already started and is being built in an engine that will have the 'full' source code released to the public in a few years? Rather than do the logical thing, the project just dries up and blows away. Which shows how much help they would have been to us anyway. Classic. As time goes on, I grow bitter.
