It seems as though this was either patched or it was changed with TFIX. Does anyone know what would need to be edited (and how) to bring blockjacking back if it's possible?

It may have been fixed in NewDark. If you want classic gameplay possibilities, you have to use the old *.exe, and fixes that don't alter it.

I was afraid of that. I'd like to get the best of both worlds and run the mods I have installed and still be able to blockjack. I'd like to do some speed runs soon and being able to blockjack for Assassins would certainly help.

I don't know if whomever did the work on NewDark knows it was dubbed "blockjacking," or what s/he saw in the code and changed it, if that's indeed the reason it's gone after running TFix.
Are you planning on making videos? If so, that would be a good way to get the word out for serious speed-runners that some tricks aren't possible after using the modern patches.

Well hopefully that author or somebody more knowledgeable than I will see this and can give a clear response on the matter. Yeah I plan on doing speed run videos after I do a campaign series for each of the 4 released. I won't be going for any official records or anything since my aim will just be for fun and hopefully I can show some people some different routes to take. I kind of started a LP of TDP, but I quickly got tired of talking and I think it ruins the atmosphere so I'm going to restart it and only comment occasionally. My channel is close to 1300 subs now (legit) so hopefully I can get more people interested in this awesome series. After all the main story campaigns are done I will move on to FMs and hopefully someday learn how to retext and create my own FMs!

never heard of blockjacking, but as long as it's an exploit, there is a good chance that NewDark fixes it, and no chance it can re-enabled. together with rope death bug, flying zombies etc.

I believe Blockjacking is when you raise the blackjack in ready to strike, then instead of letting go of the mouse button, you hold block. When you touch an AI with the blackjack while holding the block key, it blackjacks them. In the case of assassins, if you "blockjack" the assassins, it doesn't register as failing the follow them objective. It seems to have been fixed in Newdark, and it didn't work in Olddark Thief2 anyhow. It also used to be possible to creep very VERY slowly out of the bounds trigger at the beginning of that mission without it going off in Olddark, and killing Farkus

In the quickest sense, you have the blackjack armed, and press the Block key instead of the Attack key, and it works like magic where the regular Attack doesn't.

so yeah, an exploit. it's not coming back.
