Thief gold brightness problem(Yeah.. i've used the search function) - by sNeaksieGarrett

Yes, i've used search, but haven't found anything reallu useful, and rather than try reading all the threads that seem they might be what i want, im making this thread.
To the point:
Okay, i've had thief run just fine and everything on windows xp, and i dont remember the game doing this to me before, but recently i wanted to go into thief gold and play bafford's manor. So, i went and did, but everything was VERY VERY bright. I think "light_bright" is on, however i dont recall editing it in dromed, and dromed.exe isn't even in the thief gold folder:confused: So, I even tried doing the little "shift+;" thing to open the command prompt and typed light_bright and pressed enter. And guess what? NOTHING HAPPENED.:erg:
Any ideas? Oh, and im pretty darn sure it has to be a light_bright issue due to the fact that my lightgem changes from light to dark in certain areas that it should.

That sounds like Thief is running in software emulation graphics mode. Double check that it's using hardware acceleration. Open the cam.cfg file in the thief directory and look for a variable "game_hardware". It should be set to 1 or maybe another positive number, but not 0 or less.

also make sure your gamma isn't ramped up to max, make sure it's accepting new gamma settings.

It seems its NOT running in hardware mode since it says 1, and the textures i've seen while playing seem normal. Very strage. Maybe thief is hating my graphics card drivers????
Hmm.. Very strange, i turned hardware mode off just now to see what the game looks like(of course it looks like **it) and the shadows and stuff were fine. Its only with hardware mode ON, that everything is incredibly bright. 0.0
Also, I'm not sure what you mean ionia23, ive turned down the gamma inside the thief options screen but you can tell that its bright. Its just not AS bright. If that makes any sense.....

Check brighness and gamma setting in the Display Properties -> Advanced -> Color (Full Screen 3d). The settings there could override in-game settings.

Are you talking about this:

If so, all i have is "All", "Overlay", and "Desktop". No full screen video.
[edit]
It's not gamma. Im pretty sure. I turned down gamma all the way down in thief, and you can still tell that something is not right. I also turned down gamma before trying the game again just a second ago, but it was the same situation. I don't understand. Maybe its something else related to settings in the gfx drivers.
[edit2] AAAAH! yuck! It happened to thief 2 as well! I just tried thief 2 and the same results are occuring. All i can figure is its the new drivers, so i guess i should uninstall them and go back to the previous set of drivers i was using. UNless of course, someone has any ideas.
sNeaksieGarrett on 8/12/2005 at 15:55
Bump. Last chance to suggest something before i switch to previous drivers.
[edit] I've changed my drivers back, but guess what? ITS STILL HAPPENING! =-o I don't get it! I even went into dromed for thief 2 a minute ago, and it was still very bright! I even typed light_bright, pressed enter, hit alt+G, and it was still bright! I don't understand you, you cursed nVidia! I shall smite thee!

Can we have a screenshot of this light effect? Also please specify what graphics card you're using, it makes troubleshooting quite a bit easier.
