Um, wow. That's light_bright alright (notice how the sword remains unaffected).
Uh, try to reinstall the game?

Yeeah, reinstall, definatly.

Hmm, how odd. That's the card I have, and I sort of had an opposite problem. All the water was black every time I went under.
If the latest drivers didn't do it (what fixed my issue), then yeah, I'd reinstall.

Lol, thanx for the suggestion to reinstall, but i actually installed thief gold into windows 98 because i just recently set up a multi-boot system.:thumb:
However, since we are talking about thief gold, maybe somebody can shed some light onto why thief gold cant run in hardware mode under 98 for me. I actually managed to install the video card drivers for my FX 5200 in 98. But for some reason everytime i go into the game, it freezes with a black screen and i hear the default "beep" noise in the background. I then proceed to hit esc, and boom, back to the desktop. Yes, i know we were originally speaking of XP, but its now 98. If you don't feel like answering, at least maybe you could send a link my way as to an article that would know the solution to this very ugly problem.

A number of people have exactly the problem you describe on windoze 98 with nvidia cards (FX 5xxx or later). When switching screen resolutions, the screen sometimes/often goes black. Switching between menus and game mode a couple of times usually fixes the problem, but it is annoying and does not help at the briefing and debriefing screens.
I tried about all available drivers for my FX 5800 but could not find one that properly runs T1/T2. It looks like nvidia does not test/support 16 bit modes very well anymore. The only workaround I have is to set the game resolution to 640x480 so that no switching is necessary (the menus are 640x480).

Hmmm... Ok thanx, ill try setting the resolution to 640x480 @ 16 bit mode in 98. (if it permits me to.)

If all else fails you can edit the cam.cfg file manually. You may have to start the game a couple of times to get a correct display.

Yep, I tried 16 bit mod, and even 256, and neither worked(at 640x480)
Okay. I have manually modified the cam.cfg file before, but i've noticed thief gold likes to change the speaker sound settings to 8. I want it at 4! Grrr. I have to keep changing that. Oh, and any idea what "d3d_driver_index 0" means? It was in the cam.cfg file.

Modify the file, then make it read-only. Thief is then unable to write its changes.

I think if you have several different 3d drivers (like glide and directx), you can chose which one to use with that setting.

Aight, I'll do that. Thanx a bunch for your help, i really appreciate it.

It's fine now. Thief Gold runs fine, and i installed thief 2 as well. The only thing bugging me is for some reason guards dont have mesh skins. I put some custom files that make the skins all "hipoly" and better quality, but for some reason guards in bafford's manor have all white bodies. 0.0
