Yes, I have consulted the FAQ. It helped me get Thief 2 running just fine.
I got Thief Gold installed, downloaded the file for the texture error, and am using the task manager to fix the dual-processor problem. The cut scenes run just fine. The game crashes after the load out screen. Any ideas?
My system specs:
Geforce 7800 GTX
Win XP
Intel Pentium 2.80GHz

Can you roll back to any other gfx card? I don't think that anyone has ever run TG on anything like THAT before.
Sorry for the useless advice...
EDIT: There may be some driver fixes for you. Go the main Thief website and try to look them up.

Doubt I can downgrade the card. My husband works for nVIDIA so the first thing he did when I got the system was upgrade the vid card. The card drivers are up to date as well.
I don't know why Thief Gold won't run when Thief 2 ran fine (with the FAQ recommended fixes). I didn't think they were that different.

Thief Gold runs well on my 7900GT so it's not the graphics card...
In fact I had no problems running it on a 4200 X2 other than forcing it to run on 1 processor....Maybe it is the fix for the texture error making it crash????

If so then I'm screwed cause it crashes without the texture fix. I'll download Darkloader again and see if that helps any.

It worked! :D
Edit: It worked for the training mission- that loads up just fine. However, Bafford's place crashes the game right after the load out screen. What the heck?

Hi,
I had error's with my T2 and T1G after installing a new video card driver. The un-comment "safe texture" thing for T2 got it running ok; but I still had problems the same as yours with T1G, even after d/l the T1G exe. So after hours of scouring the ttlg and guru3d forums, I decided to start going backwards with my video card drivers. Doing the "roll-back" to previous drivers didn't help. Finally got both t2 and T1G running with forceware v76.44. So my T2 doesn't need the safe-texture uncommented anymore; but I still needed the T1G patch(corrects the texture memory error)+ using the 76.44 driver.
My card is a bfg6200/256-OC, os: winxp-pro, dx9c.
Now to test other games I have to see if they run ok with the 76.44 driver.
You all take care,
JimB
My Flt Unlimited 3 cockpit panels were melting/fading, so installed f/w v81.98. That fixed Flt3 and T1&2 are still functioning. I did fudge the v81.98 install: I just removed 76.44 from add/remove programs, didnot use driver cleaner or re-boot, I installed 81.98 then re-booted. JimB

Said, you read the faq, did you deactivate hyperthreading as well?

Thanks juvat I'll try that.

I'm using Task Manager to turn off the extra cpu (the non permanent instructions here: (
http://www16.brinkster.com/salvage/thief/darkengine.htm)). Worked fine for T2.

Yes, have to do that every time, too. But that's all I need to do... hmm...
