Could anyone please tell me how (or if its even possible) to bind "shift+W" to make Garrett run in Thief Gold? It works in Thief 2 but not in Thief Gold for some reason.

I don't if it's possible in the original Thief Gold, but with the NewDark patch applied, you can pretty much copy your binds from TMA to TG.
Or just add/change these in user.bnd (this is with NewDark):
bind w +walk
bind shift +runon
