Thief Gold: Mage Towers Expert = Impossible without Guide. - by MILO1985

Since R_T already did my job for me, all I have left is to agree with ManicMan. Essentially it was sadistic to hide a hidden book in an area with thousands of books, though I somehow found it rather quickly. The first time around I didn't even realise it was an objective IIRC. Either luck or all-out nerd-instinct.
I think what has already been said here - hidden switches should be either hinted at if main objectives or remain as an easter-eggish secret.

Isn't the switch in the shelf right next to the obvious secret door?
I agree with Thor though: A secret should either be a secret, or an objective. If it's both, then it can't be as secretly hidden as it should; if it's too well hidden, then it's a pain in the rear. So, just let it be a hidden objective like when you put Truart into his grave, if you really feel the need to have an objective for your secret at all.

What, you've never buried your differences with Truart before? :)
I think I managed it the very first time, having found the grave in question. Then again, I'm a compulsive explorer.

to tell the truth.. i've never seen a grave for truart.. intresting ^_^ but then, i've sometimes not looked into all the areas of the map cause i've done everything i was meant to and i'm not really one for finding every last bit of loot to find ^_^

Having beat the Thief TDP and Thief 2 10 years ago on normal, I am replaying Gold Edition,
obviously it would be pointless unless I use the expert mode, so I get to complete new objectives.
Really? i hate time.. never noticed it's been ten years since 2000... boy, time flies...
Oh and.. what has completing TDP and TMA on Normal got to do with it being pointless playing Gold unless on Expert? maybe Hard first, then Expert i would have thought.. though if it has been SOO long since you played.. maybe you are really out of pratice ^_^ happens to all of us.. i used to be able to play Sonic R on the saturn, and beat anyone if i was playing as Amy (Slowest character) and they played as Super Sonic (Fastest Character).. now.. i only beat them 9 times out of 10.. out of pratice on some of the more modern consoles like the saturn..

Dude, he already said that he didn't have a single problem on Expert until this particular switch...
I feel your pain OP. I never even tried Mage Towers on Expert, but I wouldn't be surprised one bit if it was indeed way too hard to find. This game can definitely be like that, and Gold missions are especially huge and cryptic. I guess you were unlucky enough to search the right place early enough so you weren't very careful yet, but you missed it so you figured it wasn't there and never looked again. Just a little bit of bad luck can send you to limbo - if you just happen to miss it the first time through, you're going to think it's not there and will sooner search the whole flippin level than come back to this spot where you "know" it's not.

No, because you know the glasses are in the library, and the architecture doesn't quite make sense without the secret room.

Almost as hard as finding the Alarus extension!
Wow! I drop in to visit and the discussion is still going on after all these years! Brings back memories! Nice to see some of you still here. Hi Lytha!
