... & Missing Thief Gold file (.OSM) of mission 15 (Maw)
[UPDATE March 12 2011]
YES!!! I got the Maw to work after many hours of 'research' over a period of months.
After reading <a href="http://www.ttlg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=132525">this thread</a> (which tells about the exact same problems I have) I finally decided to try the <a href="http://www.ttlg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=121449">DDFix</a>. From the very beginning of trying to get the game work, I was hesitant to use it because the DVD I bought already had some patches on it – including a widescreen-patch. I thought it would cause problems if I would use the Fix.
However, it turned out that that was not the case. After applying the Fix, the game still worked. Even better: problems I could not find an solution to were gone – the Maw included – and the graphics were greatly improved!
Still, I wonder what caused the last mission to be such a problem. I never found a solution to this particular problem. I checked many (all) files (compared them to the files on CDs of an older Thief Gold game, with which the Maw in the past DID work without problems) and they all had the same size and time. Corrupted files didn’t seem to be the case after all…

============================================================
Original Post:I am recently playing
Thief Gold again. Everything works fine, but when I get to the final mission (Into the Maw of Chaos) things go wrong. I get to see the cutscene that introduces it, and can also see the objectives, but when I am about to start the mission I
always get a Windows error report. Sometimes it pops up at the very first moment, sometimes when I am about to move while I am already in the level, (
EDIT:)and sometimes even after some seconds in-game.
I already fixed the game so that I can play “all” missions without these error reports popping up, but I cannot fix this, nor can I find a fix on the TTLG forums or anywhere else.
(I did found another (quite old: 2007) thread concerning the fact that only the “Maw-mission” cannot be played: (
http://ttlg.ttlg.mobi/forums/showthread.php?t=112525) . That thread contains no answer.)
(
EDIT: The following is NOT the problem, see the second post.)
After a closer look in the game directory, I saw that from all the 27 files (2 files for *almost* each mission, 15 missions total),
I am missing one file: the “double/second” file for mission 15 (the Maw). It is not there and has never been there.
It should have the name “MISS15.OSM”. I also cannot access the files on the CD to copy it. (I can access the files of Thief 2, but not Gold and Thief 3... Lame...)
Furthermore, I noticed that another Thief Gold CD I have also doesn’t have these files.
To come to my point:
I was wondering if there is somebody who DOES have these files (if they exist), and can supply me with the file (MISS15.OSM, in capitals) from Thief Gold I am searching for. Your help would be GREATLY appreciated!
(The files MISS17.OSM and MISS18.OSM – see below – would also be helpful, but are not as crucial.)
(
EDIT: Never mind the following part. Already found the answers.)
(AND if someone has an idea, I would like to know what the missions 17 and 18 are supposed to mean? Those two also don’t have “double files”, and loading them in the DARK.cfg just starts Baffords manor when I skip the Training... Can those files be the original The Dark Project levels The Lost City and “another one” that are needed for/used by the Goldskip executable?)
Thanks in advance,

"Maw of Chaos" is actually in MISS14.MIS file and MISS14.OSM script file. Mission titles are listed in STRINGS.CRF\english\TITLES.STR:
Code:
title_1: "A Keeper's Training"
title_2: "Lord Bafford's Manor"
title_3: "Break from Cragscleft Prison"
title_4: "Down in the Bonehoard"
title_5: "Assassins"
title_6: "The Sword"
title_7: "The Haunted Cathedral"
title_9: "The Lost City"
title_10: "Undercover"
title_11: "Return to the Cathedral"
title_12: "Escape!"
title_13: "Strange Bedfellows"
title_14: "Into The Maw of Chaos"
title_15: "Thieves' Guild"
title_16: "The Mage Towers"
title_17: "Song of the Caverns"
title_18: "Blooper Reel"
As you see, missions numbered 15-18 are Gold missions that were added after original release. The mission order is scripted in the file STRINGS.CRF\MISSFLAG.STR, so mission numbers don't really describe it.
*.OSM files contain custom scripts for the mission, so if a mission uses only general scripts located in GEN.OSM, there's no need for an additional OSM file. The file MISS15.OSM does not exist in Thief Gold, and it's absolutely normal. However, for Maw of Chaos mission there
is a script file, MISS14.OSM, in addition to the mission file MISS14.MIS. The problem is that the cause of the crash could be anything — a corrupted mission file, or a missing sound which is used solely in this particular mission, or an object, or a texture.
You can open the mission in DromEd, but I don't know if there's an easy way to see what exactly is missing. Dromeders, anyone?

DJ Riff,
Thanks for your reply. I too found the list you posted. However, I was first confused because of the list I find when I use the line "starting_mission .. (number on dots, for example 01)" in the DARK.CFG file. This list goes from 00 to 16, and also includes 08... But never mind this, I suppose it has nothing to do with it.
Thanks for the explanation on the .OSM file, didn't know what it actually was. MISS14.OSM and miss14.mis are both NOT corrupted. I copied the files from another Thief Gold CD (the Maw worked with that one a long time ago) and pasted them in the directory, but the problem remains.
Perhaps it has something to do with dual cores? Although I already found a solution to that problem...
About DromEd: I have absolutely no experience with it. I think I'll only make things worse when
I am going to use it. :p And besides, it will cost loads of time to understand everything that is important to do what you said - time I don't want to invest IF there is already a solution to this problem. (Which I hope there is.)

@ DJ Riff or anyone else who can help me,
How come we got a full - Oh. Never mind. *ahem* :o
I mean: How come some .mis files are not capitalised - miss1.mis, miss14.mis (Maw) - and some others - MISS4.MIS - are? Is this of any importance? Could changing the small characters into capitals affect the game? (Positive or negative?)

Nothing. It doesn't matter at all. Looks like it's a personal preference of the devs who worked on a particular mission. Or maybe it depends on tools they used (DOS / Windows version of DromEd, etc.)
