Hi all. I have looked through the general discussion and didn't see this asked. I just found the "Tafferpatcher" for installing Thief 2, great job by the way on making it THANKS!!!!
This is what I want to do. I have all the Thief games on pc. I would like to play all the missions from Thief gold in Thief 2 (like FMs). The reason is Thief 2 looks better, I also have problems running Thief Gold (crashes a lot no matter what I do). How hard would it be to get the missions into Thief 2? I know there would be missing sound, textures, and what not. If I new how to use some of the mod tools I would do it my self. I think it wouldn't to hard to due, it would just be getting the missions, sounds, textures, and anything that I missed to be seen by Thief 2.
If this has already been done, please post. If not, I may read up on modding and just make a mod for the missions.

There are a few problems with porting Thief Gold into Thief 2.
TTLG's position on a T2 port of T1 is: no.
Seeing as the game is not abandonware and is still available for purchase, creating a port of T1 would be illegal and an infringement of Eidos' copyright since it could enable people who only own T2 to play T1 without paying. It could probably technically be done, if someone created a custom installer that required the T1 CD and drew on it's resources, but it would probably be a seriously pain in the ass, and despite that, T1 levels aren't really compatible with Thief2.
It would require a great deal of work porting all the T1 levels to Thief2. Textures, sounds & schemas, and models would have to be imported into thief2, and since it's unlikely T1's gamesys would just drop into t2, a custom gamesys would have to be created to utilize them all. The levels themselves also cannot simply be opened up in Dromed2. With some effort, they could be exported and imported as a multi-brush, but the geometry would probably have to be retextured. It's unlikely any of the object IDs would be the same with a custom gamesys and all the objects, AIs sounds, etc would have to be placed again. Also T1 scripts = crash in T2, so some custom scripts would have to be created to do what the old ones did, or someone would have to come up with some clever workarounds.
tl;dr - It'd be a massive project, and not really legal.

Well, with that thought, is there a program similar to "Tafferpatcher" but for Thief Gold? As I said, Thief Gold crashes a lot, may because of Windows 7 Ult x64. The game will run in software mode with little crashes but I would like hardware acceleration (it just looks better). I'm all in a Thief phase right now (may be due to upcoming Thief 4) and would like to play through the series again.

Tafferpatcher applies stability and visual patches for Thief 2 all at once using one installer for convenience's sake. If you want Thief gold to be stable, you'll want to use it's normal installer, then apply (

Yes I know about ddfix, thanks anyway. Ddfix doesn't help, it still crashes and the videos didn't work with the fix and codec installed. I did run VMware and the game works but it just lags. Anyway, Thanks. I may just break down and rig up an old pc with win98se on it or something. Thing is, I need to find an old ATI card.

What do these crashes look like?

There just random crashes. Like clicking on items, opening doors, but never crashes in the same place twice. I thought I had a bad install, that wasn't it cause I reinstalled and installed it on another pc and copied that install on top of the other and still get them. I guess Thief Gold hates this pc. You know, I just though of something as I am writing this. I wander if disabling desktop composition would fix this. I had problems with a different game doing randoms crashes and not wanting to start up all the time. Disabling desktop composition fixed most of that games problems. I will try that out latter today, I'm not at the pc with Thief Gold installed.

Freeze, quit to desktop, black screen, blue screen, illegal instruction, what?

Actually some of this has already been done. As I recall Belboz ported some of the missions over already. They are listed on his website for download. But again check the legals on this as I'm not sure what he did was legal. I'm sure an expert here knows what I'm talking about and can verify this information and post a link if it's legit.
Search the threads to as I seem to remember discussing this here before at some point.:thumb:

I can understand it not being legit if he is supplying the mission files. But it would be legit if the person in question owns a legit copy of Thief Gold and Thief 2 and downloads a converter/patch that converts/patches the Thief Gold mission files to work with Thief 2. I am going to look for the thread for it, but if you know the url for the site, post it please.

Freezes, closes to desktop, and a hidden box that you can't see until you alt+tab or ctrl+alt+del (which everyone works).
Anyway, I got Thief Gold working without any errors so far (JOY!!!). Disabling desktop composition seems to have fixed it. Don't know why but I'm happy that it works once again. THANKS!!!!
