Hi guys. I am trying to play Thief Gold without a CD because I lost mine just last week. The game is already installed and everything. I tried deleting the cd path line in the .cfg and what happens is Thief Gold runs but when I try to load a game or start a new game, the game crashes to the desktop giving the error "We are sorry but Thief has encountered an error and needs to close." How can I fix this? (Or an alternate way to skip the CD check)

Thief Gold doesn't have any protection at all. It requires CD for the resources. Try to change other lines to the directory you have installed the game. That should work.

There is a crack out there that makes it so there just has to be a disc in the drive. It could be any disc. Sorry, I can't link it, but a little research should bring something up.

No crack is needed. TG doesn't require original CD, it wants CD only because of path specified in install.cfg.

Maybe I misunderstood, but I went to that file and pointed the cd drive line to the install path c:Games\ThiefG and it still asked for CD 2.

That's not the only thing that's needed. Some other lines in that file finish with "+d:\thief" so for each of those lines line you need to remove that reference.

Hopefully you have all the movies in the movie folder, and all the *.mis and *.osm files in the main folder, too.

Could you show me how I would do that?

Not on the forum.
Do you have a FULL install? If you don't then all of this discussion is mere academics because the missing disc has the movies and other material that you need.
