but if you are playing a zombie level in the dark, it can scare you still.
Indeed. The first time I played Down in the Bonehoard was terrifying, and that happened just 2 months ago. It's the atmosphere that does the trick for me, the feeling of being far away from any humans and deep inside a big place full of zombies, traps, etc. is what made the experience pretty damn memorable.

Yeah, I've always hated zombies in the thief game, and the only ones of that kind I suffered through were the Abysmal Gale and the Cradle. My sister did finish the mission with the horn... with about fifty zombies chasing her. Of course, we will still changing our pants after that monkey face spoke. Scared us soooo bad! I always wondered what would happen if you went down there, though...

You mean the face that doesn't like it when you get too close? That one scared the shit out of me. But all was well once I stole the "eyes". :p

Yes yes, the one that said "Don't come close to my face, thief!" or something like that. We climbed out of that hole so fast! So, if you steal something, it doesn't do anything? What happens if you just go up to the face? I always liked killing people in games in horrible ways... (this includes jumping off the roof in T2 multiple times and being blown to bits by all the little traps in the sword mission)

As long as you don't step where the face can shoot you, you steal it's gem eyes. Taking the gems deactivates the trap. The easiest way in and out is with a rope arrow. There's a known bug that sometimes makes your rope arrows not work, if you jump in before using the rope arrow and jumping in.
"Stay away from my face, thief. Or you'll be sorry...."
Yeah. Thief is only outdated technology-wise, but it's been enjoyable to many for over nine years, now.

Ok, thank you. One day I'mm muster up the courage and go check it out... maybe.

Use a rope arrow to climb down, face the face and then steal the gem eyes. It will no longer be a threat.
Before stealing the eyes avoid standing right in front of it. ;)

I think the very fact that this thread exists shows that Thief's got some life in it yet! ;)
True, the graphics and aspects of the gameplay have been bettered (I say aspects because no-one's got the balance quite as right since imo), but it's the sound that stops it dating. Graphics and AI algorithms can get better, but I seriously doubt there will ever be a game with a soundtrack as atmospherically absorbing as Thief.
