Before you ask/accuse/think that I didn't think to check the thread which has admittedly similar problems outlined and fixed near the top, know that I did.
Here's the problem: I installed it using compatibility for 98/ME without incident, and I can go through the menus and the cinematics fine (even the 'gear-up' screen thingy), but as soon as I try to load the actual level... blah. The screen goes black (not the "dead-screen" black, the one that usually means something's happening), and nothing happens. It locks up (just the game, of course) quite thoroughly. I know it's not just taking a long time because 1) I waited for a few minutes and 2) my hard-drive light hardly flashed at all.
So... anyone able to help? I even tried the fix for Dual Core systems, but it was automatically set to use only one of them.
Oh, and greetings to everyone here. :D

Hi Anakite,
Sorry I can't offer advice but I'm wondering if its the same problem I'm having.
I can play thru the training level no problem. I can watch the cutscene no problem, and choose my gear and view objectives etc.. But when it comes to clicking Play Mission, mine just crashes to desktop. I have no problem with cutscenes (I used the Scrooges fix for that and its working fine.) I haven't added any texture mods at all. I've added the ObjTextures16 to the DARK.CFG file (I haven't added any texture mods cos I'm not sure I want to complicate things even further, I just want to get it running so I can play it).
I have run the program Darkloader42_final.
It seems weird to be able to play the training level, but it won't load the first mission. I'm so close it hurts :(

Not exactly the same as mine, but close to it. I can't play any of the missions at all, not even the training mission. Also, mine doesn't crash, it just doesn't do anything.

Ah.. I forgot to mention I'm running XP. I've looked in the FAQ but nothing listed helps. I also do the processor thing too(I have Hyperthreading) and switch my refresh to 60hz.

I found a thread from last year. Uncadonego was having the same problem. A few suggestions were posted, but nothing seemed to solve it.

Actually, my problem went away. Apparently, I'd not tried running it without compatibility and the dual-core fix at the same time... now I feel kinda stupid. :p

Great news Anakite, glad it works for you :)
Redleaf, was it mine or Anakites problem you found suggestions for? I'll do a search for his posts.

This might not help, but I had similiar problems with the game crashing and I tried the Dual Core fix. I unchecked the 2nd box (CPU 1) and tried to run the game, but it didn't work. I tried it again though, but this time I unchecked the first box (CPU 0 on my computer), and left the 2nd box checked. The game worked after that. Maybe you should try that? And as the topic creator said, maybe with the win98/95 compability mode enabled?

I have a similar thing happen but it doesn’t cause any problems when I do “play mission” my desk top shows up for like half a second and then the mission comes up, I’m not running it in compatibility mode.

I just acquired TG too (finally) and I had the same problem as Mr Genesis. The only difference is that I STILL can't play the Bafford Manor directly. Gotta go through the tutorial and then if works... Really awkward. Hope I'll be able to play some fanmissions with this bug. I'll try to optimize mit tg install with darkloader. Perhaps this changes anything. BTW I am running TG with the nvidia TG fix on a amd athlon64. So no dualcore...
