Hello all,
I read the FAQ and searched for a while on the forums, but have yet to really see the issue I'm about to relay dealt with in any detail. It concerns Thief Gold and savegames.
System: P4 (non Hyperthreading)
nVidia Geforce 4 TI 4400 (I think, its not my box)
Turtle Beach soundcard
Intel-based motherboard
I'm getting a friend of mine to play Thief, and he loves it, but is now having a problem. Game runs fine, cutscenes work fine. He's gotten to Craigscleft and was having fun.
He has two save games. One at about 20 mintues, and one about 22 minutes. The first one works - the second one crashes thief (error pop-up, send to M$ or don't) every time, reliably. This, in and of itself, isn't bad. What IS, is ever since that one, I can't create a functional save game! Only the one slot is working!
Solutions tried:
Darkloader + optimization
No-CD Check
Updated video drivers (84.xx, yesterday)
Anything I'm missing? Does anyone else have this problem? I've never had issue with Thief on XP before (then again, I use the Kazaa Lite Codec packs, and most issues with Theif / Thief 2 deal with the movies, which is never an issue for me).
Please help!

Oh, I've tried compatability mode (95, 98, 2000), turning off visual themes, and installing the texture-fixed *.exe as well. All produce the same result: working game, busted saves (except the one).

Ah... San Rafael, my old home town.
There are a couple of things you can try.
Don't use only QS. This file frequently gets corrupted. Use a regular save now and then.
Try a reinstall right over the current game files.
If that fails, then try a uninstall reinstall.
For future referrence: Go to (
www.belarc.com) and download and run ADVISOR *you might put a copy on a floppy, or mini-CD) then you can run it on any machine. It will tell you the exact CPU, video, sound etc. that is in the computer. Good help when trouble-shooting.

Oh, my. I should update my profile. I don't live in SR any more.
For the record, the person playing the game doesn't know about quick saves - these are all regular saves.

I forgot one more. Open the SAVES folder. Delete all files except the "user and other INI files.
Start the game and try a save or two.
