When attempting to play T1 or T2 after having installed Windows Media Player 10, the video would crash when it played. This crash would happen both in game, as well as just playing a movie from the game in windows media player.
After much pain and tweeks, including reverting back to windows media player 9 which didnt work (did it leave the newer+bad codecs behind?) I finally arrived at a solution
(

The Ligos Indeo codec 5.11 with direct show and all the other goodies I needed to replace the bad codecs that come with WMP 10.
Working like a charm now!

I don't see any reason for me to get WMP 10, but now I know to stay far away from it. Thanks for the heads up, Micro.

I know this is an old thread, but this problem just popped up again for me. The link for the old version of the codecs isn't valid any more, but if it's the same as the one hosted at the-circle, then I just tried applying those. This time around, it hasn't solved the problem for me. I can't play any of the Thief 1 or 2 movies without Windows Media Player crashing. I can't run the games because they crash on the intro movies. Any help appreciated.
Running Windows Vista
Latest DirectX 10
Nvidia 8800 with new drivers
Latest Windows Media Player
EDIT: After searching around, I decided to try the pay version of the LIGOS Indeo Codecs. That worked. Yay for me, Thief runs again... though it did cost $14.95. That may be the only way to get movies working again with Vista. None of the free versions of the codecs worked. For those who need the link, it's here:

Oh now that's just sad. :(
Glad you got it working, though.:thumb:

Ok, it's probably too late now, but look at this:

When you apply the fix, you can choose if the video fix should be applied as well.
