Replacing the textures with fancy modern versions would be possible, but you would be limited to 256 by 256 pixel size.
No you wouldn't. We have DDFix now.

3) Install DarkLoader
4) Run DarkLoader and "Optimise" installation...
Optimise installation?? :weird: That is?

Well, I don't know exactly. It certainly does something.
It is only required to make the model patch work right though, not the texture patch.

It moves the .crfs into a subfolder. Only required for Thief 1 / Gold. If you don't do it, installing any custom content (e.g. mods or FMs) will make the original game resources unavailable.

I have C:\Thief for everything Thief-related, but use C:\Games for everything else.

Over on the SS2 side, the same process is known as making the install "mod-ready". It doesn't quite roll off the tongue like "optimizing", but it's certainly more descriptive.

Orgy, there is (at least one) texture that corrupts itself in-game in your texture pack. I always assumed i forgot to "optimise" my installation but now that you say that's only for the models i thought i would bring it to your attention now that i think of it.
It is Plate.pcx and is used in thieves guild as one of the sewer opening hatches - the really tiny one. The texture looks all multicoloured and rainbow-like in the game if i use your version.
I guess the format of it just needs to be changed in photoshop or something, but i am not clued up with thief editing so don't really know.

This spoke alone, ZylonBane, why didn't you mention it? And Yandros is not the first arrived... We all know his works.

If I recall, each "family" of textures had its own 8 bit palette in a separate pcx. All texture files within this fam would have to confirm to the color range in this palette file.
So it sounds like this particular one is something I forgot to format correctly. Apologies. Have a screenshot?
