Turning off EAX &/or Hardware Acceleration fixes the missing sound issue in the menu for me in TDP, Gold, and TMA. That other issue with the missing objectives completed message isn't an issue - it simply doesn't happen in Thief 1.

That's the sudden heart attack syndrome, or SHAS. Search for that keyword.
I never had any sound problems with Thief, Thief Gold or Thief2.

Thief Gold never plays sounds or displays messages for me, and I don't use hardware acceleration. I just assumed it was a feature that only Thief 2 had.

speaking of Thief Gold, i found a Torrent for it, but its a trial version. i found some code w/in the main Thief exe, and i think it may be related w/ the trial thing. this question, i guess, is 2 sided:
1)Has anyone else used this Torrent and gotten past the trial crap, and if so, how did you do it.
2)Does anyone know of a Torrent for either Thief Gold or TDP that ISNT a trial version?

No, but you could download the Thief Gold Nvidia fix on The Circle, or check Megagames or Gamecopyworld for a fixed EXE - that might work.

While I haven't tried it, I believe the trial version is packaged in such a way that you cannot just drop in a cracked exe from the CD release and expect it to run.
The TTLG forums do not condone piracy and discussions about how and where to get warez are against the forum regulations. In any case, you have the trial version, stop being cheap and just pay the unlock fee.

Frankly, I didn't even think Thief Gold was still being published. I had to get my copy off of eBay. There is a company called Selectsoft that publishes TDP & TMA though.
