Hey guys i guess i posted in the wrong section originally. so ill sum things up here.
I'm starting a Thief Gold Update lets say. I'm Thinking it will be called V.2 (Thief Gold V.2)
So I'm looking to round up some good talent. Level Editors, Texture guys, model editors, script writers.. so on so on. there is a lot of amazing talent here and if you love Thief TDP or Gold as much as me you should consider helping out with my effort to get a team together. ill take as many as i can get. ill get down to brass tax
Thief TDP or Gold is starting to show its age. some of the FM's look amazing as do a lot of the game updates that are already available for thief TDP. NewDark is amazing. the new loot models and various changes are amazing and bring new life to the game. That is the Goal of my Patch/Update.
There is already a lot of work done! NewDark is amazing the game looks better and runs perfect! the HD texture pack should be amazing as well. but this still leaves a lot of theif untouched and in desperate need of updating. The Goal is to take the best quality of what is available now and implement a major amount of new changes to help keep Thief relevant and appealing the new Taffers we know are going to be coming in hordes when thief 4 drops.
So what we are going todo:
1. Compile all know upgrades available that meet our thief standard and begin the process of combining them into one package.
2. start working on new upgrades and enhancements. character models, textures, updated item models and objective models
3. mission editing and upgrading
4. the hard task of combining everything and getting it all working properly
5. Package the final product
6. Release the product to the community
so thats the basic outline of what we are going to do. below is a more detailed description. I'm hoping to round up about 30 people here to work part time on this, put in as little or as much time as you want. I want there to be freedom with this project. most communication will be done on a closed forum and over large chat rooms / skype or any other large voice or text chat interface we decide to use. I want everyone's opinion to be relevant on every detail of this project. i don't think this should take that long as long as numbers are strong.
lets talk about the project :)
more detailed
1. Compile all know upgrades available that meet our thief standard and begin the process of combining them into one package. What we are going to do is take all of our favorite community upgrades and put them together and add them to our update. it is going to be a all in one update. the only download you will need for playing the original thief game. a one setup install.
2. start working on new upgrades and enhancements. character models, textures, updated item models and objective models. this will pretty much be every item in the game that has not yet been updated. vases, trees, status, ladders, so on so on. new textures will be made for everything that fit the model as it would be in thief. much like the advancements in NewDark. with character models we will be editing the existing character models. we are going to want them to be more formed and visually appealing then they stand currently. we will create new versions of every skin in the game as it is in the game currently. we must stay true to the original design but elevate it to a much higher standard. the objective items in the game also new updating. lord baffords scepter for example could use a upgrade. i think you understand what we are shooting for here. We will also be upgrading the quality of the main menu. we will keep it the same but we will create a much more high def quality version. along with that the hud weapons health bar and crystal will be upgraded to high def quality and tweaked to look a little more fresh but stay true to thief. as far as weapons we will slightly improve the models and design of the hilt on the sword, replace the weapon icons to reflect the advancements and when picking a body up the on screen display of you holding the body will reflect the advanced model detail.
3. mission editing and upgrading, it is essentially that. i will use mission 2, the prison for a example of what we will be doing to the game it self. when in the factory when the hammers are making the hammers (lmfo) there is a texture on the wall of pipes with smoke spewing out of the pipe. we will remove that texture, indent the wall and actually add in pipes with smoke spewing from that pipe. speaking of pipes, just about everything that is round like pipes needs to be upgraded to reflect the roundness of that object in the game. we will use best judgment on things. break the missions up and have multiple people working on different missions to speed things up. in the same mission there is a hall way thats rather long that goes no where.. by the kitchen on the upper level of the prison.. i have an idea that may be fresh and very different but we will expand the map there and create a objective for hard and expert that requires you to go there. the hall way is in the barracks so it will be some sort of hammer guard area and you will have to retrieve something.. who knows but why theirs a hallway idk. its the perfect set up and that kind of upgrade adds to the whole thieving :) we can do this kind of thing threw out the game in different missions where it would make sense that there would be something there.
4. the hard task of combining everything and getting it all working properly. once the missions are done and all the new models and items have been added in we will compile all of it in to one install file. so when you install thief, you download this and you are good to go. its thief just as you remember it being but it looks 10 times better. we will need people that are very good at this kinda stuff. the hard part is being on the same page and having everything together in the same location as a final product. im thinking that we will all upload our files on the web page to different locations. there will be a in progress and finish.. maybe more locations but once we all agree something is finished we add it to out finished archive. anyone will be able to access the files edit or tweak them, we need to work together :)
5 and 6 is pretty self explanatory. give the people what they want and keep thief alive and better then ever.
IF i get enough of you to sign on board to help out there is no reason we can finish in a relatively short period of time. hopefully before thi4f comes out. with the texture pack and all the work that has been done already we just need to fill in the gap's.
all artist's will be credited for there work and recognized! you dont have to worry about that.
Im one man, i cant do this by my self. plus im in the military so my time is not enough alone. ill do everything i can to help in every way with what time i have to work with but i plan to promote leaders and have multiple great people heading this thing up and us taffer's working as one team.

hmmm... intresting project.
other than actual mission editing, everything else can be refered as "shitstorm" especially if there's more than one guy working on project like this :P
