Hell no!

In my opinion, Thief Gold is the better of the two. That's not to say that Dark Project isn't good, but Gold feels more complete. I'll admit that the Thieves Guild level feels like filler, but Song of the Caverns and The Mage Towers were both very enjoyable. Also, it just seems more logical that each talisman would get its own mission. If they're so important that they needed to be hidden away, it doesn't make sense that two would be hidden in the same location.
In the existing missions, the building with the block trap in The Lost City was ridiculously easy in TDP, since it's completely deserted. In TG, there are mages you have to get past. Little Big Land in The Sword was a lot of fun to explore.
Finally, after playing TG, I found the zombies in TDP to be a royal pain in the ass. In TG, they can be put to "sleep" by giving them two overhead chops. in TDP, they get right back up.

I'd generally agree with Rekrul, except that I vastly prefer the version of the Lost City in TDP (of course, I realise I seem to be in a minority for liking it at all, but that never stops me). The presence of mages in the city raises a bunch of questions, and breaks that feeling of being the only living human in the place, with just a handful of critters, the bones of the last group of keepers, and the sound of the wind for company. The TG version just loses some of that feeling of solitude and antiquity for me.

I think if one likes the original feel of tdp's lost city, but wants to play thief gold, then just own both so you can experience them both.:D

I agree that TDP's Lost City was a better experience, though some of the Craymen were out of place, but I'll gladly take those over the Mages down there. I'm glad I have both TDP and Gold so I can have the best (yes, and the "worst") of both worlds--entirely subjective, of course.

My favourite thing about Gold is the Blooper Reel :D

Heh, I agree. But there's more to it for me... I've only played TDP's Lost City once, and that was a looong time ago when I was a kid. So I guess there's a bit of nostalgia there... ;)
Before I finally got to playing TG about 7 months ago, I had forgotten many of the things from TDP/TG. Still, some of the visual scenery remained cut into my memory - a lot of it from the Lost City :). For instance, I can distinctly remember:
- diving into the murky water and seeing the Water Talisman (would love to see that again... that section is now completely gone, right? Shaaaame :p)
- the haunt near the bridge, who was later removed
- craymen, particularly the one on the staircase with 2 torches ending with a collapsed wall (I was surprised and even a little disappointed not to see it there :p)
I would indeed like to replay the original Lost City again... also, the craymen to me actually seemed more at home there than the mages . Though the TG version is indeed better in regards to fitting the story-line, I guess there'll always be a bit of emotion and nostalgia making me like TDP's version more :)

I seemed to recall that the textures in the original bonehoard looks better and makes the experience better as well, more terrifying.
Agreed about the original Lost City as well... its better.
Don't much like the Thieves guild mission, its too big and too easy to get lost in...but overall Thief Gold is still better.

Well getting TG means been able to run TG FMs with no problems. That 'TG FM Patch' to make T1 work with TG FMs is hit and miss and whilst it may work for some it doesn't work for others. Yes it didn't work for me and I couldn't TG FMs until I finally got TG, oh the pain! :o
IIRC correctly one thing that is different between the two versions are the cutscenes/missions related to the missions where Garrett goes to find the talismans.
In T1, Garrett finds 2 talismans in one mission and then the other two in the next mission. But in TG the talismans are 'spread out' and you find one talisman per mission (so 4 missions to find all 4 talismans), as a result of this change the cutscenes are different to reflect this. Also the missions are changed slightly as well. I might be remembering wrong, but one example is where in T1, you find the water talisman in the Lost City in a pool of water, but in TG this area doesn't exist - as the water talisman is found in the next mission.
So if you want to be as 'complete' as possible, you should get T1 and TG. Considering how both games are very cheap to get, it really shouldn't be a problem.

shadows, all you said has been mentioned before - maybe not in this thread..
But yeah, you are correct regarding the talismans. That's why, as you said, it's best to own both games so you can get both experiences.
