thief II and 64 bit windows don't match, it seems. I start it up, either from a disc image, or the actual play disc and it complains at me, asking for the 'real' cd. Guess the copy protection used doesn't like x64.
Any ideas?

I assume by actual play disc you mean a legit one, not a burn of a CD image? Try using a no-CD crack. I'm not going to link you to one as it's against the forum regs, but they're fairly easy to find and work reliably.

I have XP64, derfy, but never tried to install T2 on it yet. I'll try and let you know how it works or doesn't work for me, so we can determine if this is really a XP64 issue (I don't think so, but we shall see).

Correct, the actual orangeish disc. I've tried the gcw cracks but none work - I still get the same error.

Sweet. Given that I've tried some cracks and it doesn't work leads me to believe my hypothesis was wrong.

Well, T2 installs and plays flawlessly on my x64. CD2 check without problem during startup.
What is good news for me and a minor plus for x64 reputation, and bad news for you...
Do you have opportunity to install it on standard XP somewhere? Perhaps you should scan your CDs for errors. Or I don't know...

Yeaaaa! Reinstalling fixed it. w00t.

Think I figured out what the problem was. This happened again today. Turns out my daemon tools virtual cd that I made from my legit copy(so don't shoot me, please) changed drive letters. A simple edit of user.cfg fixed it. So, go me or something.

I just copy the movies over to the HD, edit install.cfg and you're fine. Don't need the CD, or any CD image.
