This is great, Mojo. We're looking forward to new content and takes on our classic love.
Curious: You seem much younger than I and many others, how did you get into Thief?

I'm flattered you picked one of my missions! However, the VE shouldn't have any colourized textures in it, are you perhaps playing with a texture pack like the EP2 enabled?

Im 29, and have been playing since i was 10. My dad loved Thief and got me and my brothers playing it at a pretty young age. It was a huge game changer for my family when the fan missions and DromED came out. I've always wanted to make my own mission, but I feel like I never have enough time or patience. We would play the missions as a family, turn off the lights and gather around the computer and just be enveloped in this whole new world. It's one of the best atmospheric games I've ever played. (although I will admit i'm a huge horror game nut) Thank you so much for checking out my videos, I hope I can show off what makes Thief so great and maybe get a whole new audience into the games!

I wonder if maybe the HD mod is what makes the textures colorized? :o I feel silly I didn't even realize that happened until you mentioned it. Also, I love all of your missions!! -bows down- :p

Have you seen FenPhoenix's YouTube channel? He has many of the FM playthroughs on his channel.
The problem with using a video as a walkthrough is that the player would have to watch the whole video to find the part where he is stuck at... Unless the video is indexed and specific areas can be found quickly.
I have not! I will definitely be checking it out though. :D Usually when I can't find a written walkthrough I skip through the video until I find the part i'm stuck at. (I do this so I don't spoil myself on any major plot points) This is especially helpful with indie video games.

Video is the most inconvenient format for Thief 2 walkthroughs.
Write. Can you write? This is key is here, that key is there... Few screenshots for tricky situations and voila: we have small, useful sources of information.
Video is good only for watching from the beginning to the end. Well, except porno, but we're talking about walkthroughs...
Apart from the uneccessary comment about porn, I agree with this statement because:
1. Thief has been around for a long time. So have the dedicated Thief players; more often than not, a hint is all that is required.
2. I'm not a fan of the accusation, "immersion breaking" but will make an exception for a 50 minute video.
3. Have you asked yourself, "Who is my target audience?" It's not the folk on this forum who live and breath Thief. Many (most?) of us have played the original games and all the fan missions several times over.
4. Are you 100% absolutely sure that you have found every secret, every easter egg, every piece of loot?
I'm aware this sounds severe. I don't want to see you waste you're obviously boundless energy for Thief on a project that may not deliver the results you envisage.
I'm a big fan of Ricebug's walkthroughs. Some of them are sparse on detail but he has a great feel for the spots where a player gets stuck, even on repeat play-throughs. Lists of keys, secrets, hints for tricky objectives...I've downloaded them all and refer to them constantly, even on replays. (Yeah, getting old, memory fading....)
You may find an audience in a newer, younger group of Thief players. Personally, without wanting to discourage you too much, I don't think that audience is here, in this forum.

1. Not necessarily. Sometimes there is a very well hidden key or a switch that hint is just not enough. Or some event or a puzzle that even with hints you just have no idea how to solve. In that cases straight answer is needed more than just hint.
3. If she's gonna do Heartcliff Islands FM then I will become her audience. This is one of very creative missions and also very cryptic. Even with Ricebug walkthrough I couldn't figure out how to beat it. Question/ answer format of his walkthroughs has some really serious problems. In other words - if he didn't have any problem with something, he will not write about it. So there is no question how to get, for example, explosive device in this mission. He found it without problems, I guess. But that was a huge problem for me. He also explained what ingredients are needed to make potions, but he didn't explain how to use these ingredients to make potions. I don't want to say that Ricebug walkthroughs are unhelpful. Sometimes they are. I just want to say that more of the times they aren't very helpful, because they don't include a certain problems that I have in my playthrough.
This videos are really needed. It's easier to find a part of the mission that you have a problem in the video than trying to figure out on wall text. And in question/answer format your problem may not appear in the walkthrough.
4. This is just a walkthrough how to beat the mission. There is no need to do 100% run. This is made for fun.
Oh, and one more thing. I'm not young Thief player. I play it for more than 10 years.

I'm a video walkthrough guy without commentary and player inserted-image in the corner.
Just the gameplay.

Yes, the HD mod will replace some of the textures I used with its HD colourized versions. Most of the sepia tone in this mission was achieved just by changing the default palette used by Thief for textures, so if you play with a mod that replaces those textures with full colour versions than they will override the vanilla textures.
Also, please use the Multi-quote feature to avoid multiple posts in a row when you're replying to others' comments. I merged the 4 above into one post. Thanks!

Seen the first two videos. Just a small point, but aren't they more "Let's Play"s rather than walkthroughs?
Anyway, found them interesting to watch and Thiefess makes a good host.
And it will be good to see guides for FMs that do not have them.
I agree with some that written guides have some advantages, but a video can have others. Remember getting stuck trying to find my way through a swimming section, and the written guide just said something like 'swim through unbtil you get to the end'. A video would definately have been better.

Thiefess here~
First off I just want to mention that I really appreciate all of the views and subscriber's I've gotten thus far. I know not everyone here believes it, but I think some people are actually interested in what I'm doing regardless of if you consider it a Walkthrough/Let's Play/Playthrough. All that I'm hoping is that it is of some help for you. Below the video I'll answer some of the questions/concerns you guys have.
The first Thief II fan mission I decided to start with was Raetsel's Masque of the Red Death. I love that it follows closely to the poem and the imagery is amazing! You can tell they put a lot of work into this, and I think it sets wonderful tone for the spookiest of months! (Also I apologize that I am getting over a cold in this!)
Thank all of you so so much for what you've helped me achieve so far, I honestly wasn't expecting to get as much interest as I have!

My plan is not actually to find every piece of loot, I think it's to bring a bit more interest back to the game and have fun doing it! Yes it does read a bit more like a let's play, but I intend it to be a bit of both in terms of Walkthrough/let's play. Someone is taking time out of their day to write up an incredibly long walkthrough, so there isn't a ton of difference with a video version of that. I don't actually have high expectations for this, so I'm not ruining a dream or anything if only 2 people viewed every single video. I do it because I love it and I know other people out there seem interested. (Otherwise I don't feel like I would have this amount of views already) I've been wanting to record Thief Missions for some time now, but only recently did I have a computer powerful enough to do so. You guys keep me doing this, it's your support and acceptance that keep things rolling. :D
I would absolutely love to play EVERY mission at some point, yes all 750ish (Thief II missions). Since you suggested Heartcliff Islands FM I can definitely see myself playing it this month! I was hoping these videos could bring a bit more light on the small fan missions that don't get as much love, and bring some of the creators back into creating again. I think I may have mentioned this in my first video but it is a small goal of mine to get more people into making Thief II missions again and keeping that alive. I've gotten tips from the forums, Ricebug, and help from other videos over time, but there is always that one mission that stumps me and I find nothing on it. I hope this is helpful to answer some of the questions I have gotten. I don't want to make this into a serious idea, I want it to stay fun and lighthearted and keep Thief II going forever!:cheeky:

Its always fun to see other playing, especially with commentary. And it's extra fun looking at my own games, because then you can more easily see and hear about it from someone else's point of view. What I could have done better. So i'm looking forward to see you playing for example my last: "Mortuos Liber Campaign" :) Then of course my upcoming "The Sister".
