i didn't try the bait and evade method but replayed that mission, it wasn't as painful as i first thought. i went straight to Section 5 and waited for Cavador (for 10-15 minutes that felt like forever). looks like i might finally beat Thief 2, although last time i played it i got further than this playing on Medium difficulty level. i don't even like this game, i always thought it was a letdown compared to Thief 1, but i want to finish it for the record :p
thanks to everyone for advice :thumb:

Paying attention you would have heard that Cavador is wearing a gas-mask because he fears getting gassed by burricks. Kill the guy with the brass-coloured gas mask and the mission will fail.
btw you were not quite right in this, Cavador really was wearing a gas mask and i knew it from the beginning but one of his guards that followed him everywhere really was a 'cyborg' thing that can't be taken out with blackjack and i had to use gas arrow on him.

If you get Cavador and run like hell you can sometimes make it out even though the "Cyborg" seems to be every place you go.
He really is a pain in the ass that guy.

The method is works best for me (I stole it from someone else btw) is to go to section 3, wait in the shadows till he gets there and when he walks past you to section 3, shoot a noisemaker arrow in the direction he is going. One of his bodyguards will investigate the noise, while Cavador and the other one are running back, away from the noise (probably to Section 5). Lean forward from the shadows and blackjack Cavador without being caught by the second guard. Most of the time that guard then will assist the first guard and while they are searching for you in Section 5 you can go where-ever you want, with an unconscious Cavador.

so i got stuck in the next mission, Casing the Joint. i completed all objectives except the optional one which ISN'T actually optional! because when i return to the streets this efing mission doesn't end. but i can't complete the last objective which is reading some mechanist scripture in the library because i can't find the 4th book which would supposedly open a secret place with that scripture. there is NO 4th book, i swept every little corner. this is ridiculous, this game hates me! looks like i might never finish it. this may sound harsh, but maybe Looking Glass deserved what they got in the end :D

books (not sure I'm right):
1. when you come out of the secret corridor, in a bookcase immediately to your right.
2. In the windowsill in the Y-section
3. on the big table
4. In the section to the right of the section where you can see the 'fake' bookcase
theBlackman on 1/10/2009 at 19:05
It's not mechanist scriptures. It is a series of love notes between the former librarian and his lover.
The books are there, and mostly in plain sight. But you need to look at every bookshelf, window sill and table, starting with the obvious one near the fireplace on the first level.
Good luck.

2. In the windowsill in the Y-section
that might be it, i will have to look there.

the walkthrough that i was using said that after reading all four librarian and her lover notes a secret storage will be opened containing a mechanist scripture, and reading that scripture is the damned 'optional' objective.

looks like that optional objective really was optional after all, because the first time i returned to the courtyard where this mission began hoping that it would end, instead of returning to the 'streets'.

JC, you've got to exit via the front door, or else bust a window in the front of the compound and jump through.
