Which game is the problematic crf from? I found an issue with one of the larger SS2 ones, too.

Thanks, I've managed to reproduce it.
I suspect I'm going to have to create a custom control that only keeps the currently visible plugin instances in memory, as trying to load obj.crf uses upwards of 7,000 USER objects and other weirdness.

* Paginates data so that huge directories do not create resource famine and/or crash

It happened when I chose to open motion.crf (for Thief 2) and immediately after (while the file was loading) I pressed the next-button (I had previously opened obj.crf). I can easily reproduce it.
