Here we go, this is my two pence worth:
I think Thief is one of those unique things, an anomaly that traps a certain kind of person. There are so many reasons for enjoying Thief, whether it is for the sneaking around robbing the rich unworthy, the ethos of the Keepers, the unsung hero factor of Garrett or any other reason you can think of.
The point is the game must be good for people to be playing it 10 years down the line. Also this community is awesome; I can ask a question, regardless of how dumb it is and get pointers to help me out within the hour. Biker you yourself have given me some tips and help in the past, thanks again by the way. This is, to me, an example of how thing should be. A collection of souls, that for the best part, have never met, that helps each other in whatever way, not for reward but because they want to and can. This seems strange considering the premise of the game. :cheeky:
As for life, it seems it can throw some nasty shit at you at times, we all have to endure “the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune” Also it seems to get worse as you get older. So it is good that there are oases like TTLG and Thief to shelter from the storms.
I will finish off by saying this.
I like to play Thief, plain and simple and I will buy a drink for anyone who, like me can prattle on about it for hours.
Keep posting people, this site is top banana.

now i don't want to sound like a smart-ass. it's just that i've also judged by what i saw, never bothered to dig deeper and observe circumstances from different point of views. if you're a teenager it's okay if you live in a bit more simple world, but at some point it's very helpful (and morally "healthy") to acquire new perspectives on things. todays world offers you a variety of easy accessable and different sources of information and education. a life as a cynical secluded "peoplehater", full of prejudices and by that open for every kind of manipulation didn't sound appealing to me, and in addition this would be a waste of opportunities ;)
Yes, thanks. I know perspectives and i know to see them, i'm not
that shallow. Sometimes my emotions bother, pff. Emotions i don't like. LoL.
Anyway, the other reason i replied was to link this small little game, that might help you with christmas spirit. Not related to Thief in any way, but it's still a nice game, music gives some atmosphere.

I guess I'm in agreement with Bikerdude here. RL has been such a serious bitch to me for the past couple years that I admit freely to grabbing at any distraction I can find (other than alcohol & drugs, mind you; been there, done with that long ago). In comparison with some of the other escapes from reality that people choose, I think Thief wins, hands down. As fun as sex, drugs, & rock -n- roll might be, playing Thief & Thief FMs seems a lot more satisfying.
After having experienced a rather forced hiatus from TTLG and the Internetz in general, I can't tell you how good it is to be back again. People can shit all they want on virtual friendships and how fake & shallow can be, but as far as I'm concerned (and speaking from unfortunate experience here) more of my virtual friends have proven to be more true than those I've had in RL, including some family members, sadly enough. This is DEFINITELY NOT a bid for sympathy; just a statement of fact. It's the most wonderful feeling in the world to walk into a room and have people recognize & welcome you warmly. And that's the reaction I've had from my fellow TTLG'ers every time I've been away for awhile & then come back again.
Afa Christmas is concerned, I won't even comment, since I have a rather bad attitude about it at the moment. Instead, I'm going to wish you all a Happy Holidays and then go check out all the FMs that have been released during my absence and then tie up my phone by spending hours downloading all that I've missed.
I'm surprised at how surprised I am at how I've missed you guys. :weird: But you never fail to give me the Warm Fuzzies and imo ya can't beat that. So there.

Welcome back Dia! :) I wondered where you were, and yes RL can be a bitch sometimes. I hope things are better for you, and ahhh, stick around!!! Will ya? You have a bit of catching up to do.

Hey there BA, you sweet thang!! Yeah, I'm gonna stick around for quite awhile. I'm seriously intrigued at the TAC contest that went on in my absence and looking forward to playing all the FMs therein.
Thanks again BA. Missed you.
