Start bombarding those guys that won the full blown engine from the make something unreal contest :D They could do it :D On second though... I dont really want to see a WWII Garrett.
Ive said this before, but i just feel like they did such a wonderful job tying the plot up that it didnt end at all, yet had a very satisfying conclusion. I felt like they were done with Garrett and bringing in a new anti-hero. So I expected 3 more games with a different hero and timeframe / circumstances / whatever. Personally I'd like to see keeper Garrett 'shape' events for a few games.
Im not really talking probabilty, Im just saying that since Thief is so story driven that the plot definitely left room for much more. Now we just need someone to make games for the sake of making games and not someone who wants to meet the lowest common denominater to buy the rights...

Of course, we said that after LGS went under. Then along came Warren, ISA, and Thief:
DEADLY SHADOWS.
Fixed that for ya.

I know... let's just make thief 4 a third person shooter, like max payne with bows, and you can pick up powerups and get new bows and stuff and you'll do more dmg, and you can get finishing moves and stuff.......... well it's possible... eidos does have the liscence.

Thief 4 according to trolls needs to be exactly the same as Thief: The Dark Project, with no graphical, or gameplay difference whatsoever. This would spoil the game and ruin the Thief series completely just like the scum who made TDS.

Bull'f'ing'shit ToolFan2007. Just because some say it should have followed the same artistic style, does not mean that there should be no graphical or gameplay differences. Quit 'being' a tool and simplifying what people are actually passionate about. They were pissed off because the artistic style lacked the solemn 'realist' style of the originals...not because there were more polys, higher res textures...and oooh 'gasp' dynamic shadows. It's the quality of the tech, not the tech itself that should impress.
The mentality around here has been depreciating to the level of pre-schooler observational abilities lately.

Kovitlac: Actually I think the T3 ending cutscene a quite a decent conclusion of the series. I'd really like to know how to better conclude this franchise. It's certainly better than the flat ending of TMA that makes you "Wuht??? That's all?". TDP final cutscene might be best, because it was meant to work as a conclusion of a stand-alone game.
And I think Terri Brosius didn't leave much open space for a sequel to begin with.
So no Thief 4. Again,
it's probably better that way.Forget ye not the sage words of
Father Krypt...

Basically Thief 4 was going to be a retelling of the original games, except set in modern times. It would have modern versions of the same characters from the old games, who's roles would have been translated to modern day parallels. Some of the old maps were going to make a reappearance as well. To be clear, it was not going to be anything like Splinter Cell or similar games. Garrett wasn't going to be turned into a James Bond type of guy with a bunch of gadgets or anything like that. He would still be the dark, sarcastic loner who uses his own skills and ingenuity to do his thieving, not gadgets. I don't think we were even going to let the player use a gun, just simple tools and weapons. The art direction would have been similar to the steampunk from the previous games, just translated to modern times, with the same crowded and dilapidated city streets and such. I guess the Silent Hill series is the closest reference I can think of for what we had in mind for looks, but it would have been pretty different from that too. We were going to somewhat modify the "rules" of the modern world to make them more conducive to the Thief-type stealth game also, and not necessarily realistic. There wouldn't be light switches that anyone can just turn on to reveal you, the enemies wouldn't all have machineguns, there wouldn't be lasers, etc. Basically we were going for a very similar type of gameplay to the original series, just in a twisted steampunkish modern setting.
It was only in pre-production for about two months before the Ion Storm "end times" began, so the concept never got much more fleshed out than this, but that's basically what it would have been.
As we all say here at TTLG, "use the search function, ya taffer!" :laff:
I'd rather we built a fan-sequel on the Doom 3 (or other) engine. The Thief 3 engine has too many shortcomings without us getting the source code to fix some of that crap.
