I recently run out of fm's and i thought what made me stuck playing for hours those missions. The answer is the exploration gameplay nature of thief game, it is something you dont find easy on first person games. Wonder if there are any other first person game with main gameplay "exploration" like thief 1,2.
I enjoyed penumbra 1,2 wich was 100% first person exploration/adventure game. Any others?

Maybe Dark Messiah, although that's no real stealth game and has similarities to an ego shooter in fantasy-surroundings.
But you will note that the gameplay is very similar; which in my opinion could have something to do with the developers'-crew - where you'll find some (
http://www.mobygames.com/game/windows/dark-messiah-of-might-magic/credits) familiar names if you know a bit about thief.
I enjoyed the game anyway - but do not expect another thief. Maybe play the demo first.

If the exploration aspect is what you're after, not the fantasy setting, it's difficult to see how you could go wrong with System Shock. 1 or 2. But Thief players should already have tested those, so I don't know what else to recommend. ;)

Please, do yourselves a favor and play Wizardry VIII. The only problem is that you might never return...

Oblivion comes to mind. And for a long time I had fun in WoW, there is a lot of world to explore in that game.

1st person Explore ?
Descent ? You will have a fun time exploring 3D maps.
And an old favorite of mine... Might and Magic 7 - For blood and Honor. Bad graphics but cool gameplay and lot of things to see.

You could try out Bioshock, which is similar to System Shock 2. The exploration aspect is somewhat underdeveloped, but I did manage to configure my character in such a way that he acted pretty much like Garrett (I actually passed most of the second half of the game using wrench as my primary weapon).
If first person perspective is not a critical requirement, then Beyond Good & Evil is a very good game of stealth, adventure and exploration. It's also one of best computer games I've played in last twenty years. About half of game's content is nonlinear, so it doesn't always feel like a rollercoaster. Exploration is based on sightseeing, rather than snooping around, but it's also one of few games I like to return to just because I miss the setting. I wish I could live in a place like the Lighthouse or the Acuda Bar (I mean general feeling, not the warzone part).
There is a fair share of exploration in System Shock 2, but as far as classics go, Deus Ex seems more Thief-like. It's less reliant on combat, and gives a lot more options for those who believe discretion is the better part of valour.
Exploration in Dark Messiah is mostly sightseeing, and some sights aren't that pretty - especially the town. It's also a game focused on action, as in "action movie". Lots of fights involving large swinging objects, and a few spectacular boss fights. I guess you could call it "Thief-inspired" (it has rope arrows! :) ), but it doesn't really feel much like Thief. In theory, it gives you "thief" as one of three paths of character development, but the balance is a bit flawed. I ended up playing a multiclass character, because I couldn't rely on stealth alone. And I really don't like either the plot or the NPCs. They are all very irritating.
What GD said is also true, to some extent. Wizardry VIII doesn't play like Thief at all, but the exploration aspect is very strong, as is typical of computer RPGs from that period. If you enjoy this kind of gameplay, then Might & Magic 7 is also worth your attention.

ego shooter
If anyone's wondering what the hell that is, it's the german term for first person shooter. Always cracks me up. :p
EDIT:
As for thiefy games, I'd recommend Azrael's Tear. I'ts a adventure game, but done in first person in full 3d. You play as a futuristic thief/archeologist who manages to find the sealed off underground retreat of the Knights Templar, made immortal by an artifact known as the grailstone.
The game has that sense of mysticism I love the Thief games for, as well as many more similarities, such as similar design, good voice acting, a ton of stylised readables etc. Heck, even the game's intro is similar to TDP, with cryptic quotes fading in and out.
I even remember actually checking the game's credits for names associated with Thief, since the game felt so similar, but there were none. I wouldn't be surprised though if the Looking Glass guys played Azrael's Tear somewhere during the production of Thief and got some inspiration from it (Azrael's Tear was made in 1995).
It's really a forgotten, underrated gem. I'm not sure if it's possible to run it on a modern system, sadly.
