Tell You something: There's NO other games like Thief series:) Thief is unique and looking for some similarities in other games has no sense to me. But You can not agree with me, of course;)
I just can't wait for the DarkMod campaign and Thief 4 already(and hope that these two will be really good;) )
It's good that we have FMs and talented people who make them, however;)
Of course there is no other game like thief because of the role. There aren't any other first person stealth games out there with the role of a thief (this makes thef unique and why i love it). Just trying to kill some time with another game that it is not totaly crap:D

Thief is Thief.
I'm surprised no ones mentioned Morrowind though, playing as a thief.
Atmosphere obviously different, and you've got to fight critters
but lots of fun sneaking and robbing if you want.
Not got round to any Elder Scrolls after this. Are they as good?

I suppose you could say Mirror's Edge though it really disappointed me. The idea is cool, but the way EA made the game was a failure.

Try Wheel of Time if you haven't already, first-person fantasy adventure, no hiding in shadows though. I couldnt really get it myself, i've seen the books recommended on here before.

How about anything from The Adventure Company (lots of exploring and puzzles to solve)?
yes, like carmen sandiego...that'd be fun:D

I actually never played the Carmen games --kinda sad. :erm:
The old Sierra Phantasmagoria series (only two of them) was interesting for Thief-like puzzle solving and a few good scares. Speaking of Sierra, I cut my teeth on gaming with the King's Quest series (played on a Tandy 1000). Those were great adventure games!

Hmm, I know it isn't exactly a true exploration game series like thief, but anyone ever heard of that ps2 game called sly cooper? I ued to play it as I had very little cash for my ps2, and that was the cheapest game I could find...

I bought Sly Cooper because of the thief theme. Cute, but I didn't find it interesting enough to follow the series.

Oblivion does stealth better than
Morrrowind, especially in the "alert" reaction behavior of NPCs and critters, and gives you lots of nice big shadowy places to sneak around in. It's pretty easy to make and play a Garrett type character. There are also some mods for it that are designed to make it even more
Thief-like (water arrows, etc).
