(
http://us.imdb.com/title/tt0375920/) the libertine with johnny depp
not the story or anything
just the constant ever so lovely mood of melancholy and the cynical to the bone lead character
probably one of the most authentic period pieces made
i just loved it
(
http://www.animenfo.com/animetitle,713,drvfsa,hellsing.html) hellsing, anime series about vampires
the lead character reminds me of garrett sometimes, with his deep voice(original japanese, dubbed is quite flat) and calm confident composure
and the unconventional choice of soundtrack
got some undead being blown to bits with big guns aswell
"sky captain & the world of tomorrow" and "sin city" for their stylistic approach to liveaction film that might trigger some dejavus
all heist films
can't remember anything special as of late
(
http://us.imdb.com/title/tt0356614/) foolproof might be of interrest as it employed the practice of "ghosting", and had sufficiently twists and turns to make it entertaining

yeah, if thief were a comic it wouldn't look right unless frank miller drew it.

You mentioned some comics Szandor? Got any names? I'm not really a CBG, but I enjoy a few comics here and there and if you knew some comics Thief-plot/Thief-feel, I'd appreciate a link.
Thanks :-)
There is a comic called
Steampunk that looks pretty dark, but I haven't read it. Overall, there are a lot of comics that in all manners of ways feature themes brought up in Thief. I don't have a lot of names right now, but I can try and remember it when I go to the local comicshop next time.

Was a fantastic film in fact brilliant. It really has the feel of Thief.Well worth watching.
The article refers to the book that the film was based on, Umberto Eco don't make no movies. It, along with all other Eco books that I have read, is sublime.
But the movie didn't really do it for me. Couldn't deal with the super 80's factor of it all.
Well the Lupin anime movies feature an antihero thief with some serious attitude, and skills. But stylisticly they are completely different. The Castle of Cagliostro was a bit of fun, though...

Must say Batman Begins is very Thief-like.
The training reminds me a lot of the keeper methods - in the game.
The atmosphere is dark, and there is an anti-hero thing going on with Batman, in Batman begins.
One of my fav movies to be honest.. :D

you're an idiot. you've been playing it! what the hell do you think thief is, taffer? a modern day thriller?
steampunk basically is the concept of a world in the past, or resembling the past, where certain technologies were discovered earlier (such as the steam engine), and/or modern day technological ideas, achieved with the science of the apparent time-period (for example, the way all the lights seem to operate more on tesla's idea of electricity, rather than edison's.)

Has anyone seen terry gilliam's "brazil"? I haven't seen it but it was on a 50 movies to see before you die film four preview program... it seemed like an excellent environment for thief in the future. Anyone seen it?
