ahh ol Doc Who.. I kinda like the overhaul they did on the series, though they still cant come close to Tom Baker's level. Never can either.
as for Hellsing, i do agree, it does have Thief-like moments at times, but that part about Alucard being 'calm', HA! Alucard is anything BUT calm, hes the most impatient person ive ever seen. Hes calm at times, but not very often. I believe 'controlled' is a more accurate word.

Talking about anime, Vampire Hunter D - Bloodlust should be mentioned, too. ;)

Don't laugh, but...
When I first saw the previews for Constantine I thought they were making a Thief movie, and almost started dancing in the middle of the theater. And then I saw it was a Keanu Reaves movie...
:laff: :laff: :laff: :laff: Oh dear! I would of had a heart attack if Thief was made into a film and Hollywood had their grubby hands on the franchise. Thou shouldst bless the Builder that Thief will not be in a movie Tarkin. :p

YES, very steampunky. though, where thief combined the medieval with the victorian (and a little bit of early 20th century tech), bloodlust was a mixture of strongly gothic and ornate design with modern and futuristic technology. a good example would be the shattered highway that D travels past right before the sand mantas- very ornate, but totally unusable as it's succumbed to the ravages of time and warfare.

(
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0396171/) Perfume: The Story of a Murderer. The story, of course, has nothing to do with thief at all but the city locations SCREAM "make a thief movie here please" :D Takes place in Paris around the 1800 era and other locations. Extremely Thiefy look IMO. You should check it out. Not a bad movie either ...

How about Lord Of the Rings: Fellowship of the Ring? The Moria scene was very Thief-like, except they traveled in a group.
I suppose if you could film a movie from Gollum's perspective, that would be very Thief-like.
Gollum is the ultimate Thief (except for Garrett of course).

I just watched Batman Returns the other day, I wouldn't be suprised if somebody in the Thief art department was largly inspired by it. Gotham city and 'The City' have a lot of similarities, and the final scene ended almost exactly the same as the Thief 1 final cut scene.

'Steamboy' is an anime that has a sort of thiefy setting, it's good if a bit rambly.
As far as the movie scene goes, I can't think of many others that haven't already been mentioned. There's a deplorable lack of thiefy movies really. :nono:
I can recommend some Thief-like books though:
Perdido Street Station by China Mieville (sp?) which was actually reccomended some time ago by someone on this forum. It's great; very gritty.
Neverwhere by Neil Gaiman has a thiefy feel to it also.
Monster Blood Tattoo by D. M. Cornish - it's a 'young adult' novel, but pretty entertaining anyway.
Airborne by Kenneth Oppel - also young adult, it has airships and pirates and whatnot.
Well, that's all I've got right now. If I remember anything else I'll post it.

I kinda wonder if you could even compare Thief to any movie. Dark City maybe. I could see some similarities if you compare it to the artwork of the cutscenes. It would be really cool to get everyone from the community to make a Thief movie because we ALL know that Hollywood would do a crappy job. Can you imagine int possibilites of making an opening scene of Lord Bafford's Mannor? I would go nuts
