Slato, have you ever seen Ghost Dog?
I don't really like the extended-take thing, that technique is really strained.
My main argument against a Rustmonkey feature is that we wouldn't be able to see the Thief universe brought to life. I think a team of talented filmmakers could do amazing work with the franchise, on the same level as something like Seven. I can picture scenes taken from the games and put in real life and it's almost making me cry at how beautiful it could be. A visual movie like this I think is very rare.

I mean, still artworks with a camera zooming out and rotating slightly, suttle movement and everything else that comes with the standard style of the thief movies, in A feature length film?
You're thinking of the briefings, not the cutscenes. Think of the cutscene where Constantine reveals himself as the Trickster and Viktoria plucks out Garrett's eye (and remember those wonderful, growing vines that slither their way around the legs of the chair Garrett sits in:-). *That's* the style we're talking about. Not the style of the briefings, with in-game and item stills that are panned around or zoomed on or whatever.

Things like the intros from all 3 games and the color movies from TDP.

I know what you're talking about. The first time I saw the end sequence for TDP, I felt sick because it was so well done and so beautiful. And the movie where you meet Viktoria again in TMA, the SteadyCam like movements prove that animation
can be as life like as live action shots.

I think you'de be pleasantly surprised what can be done with animation. ;)
I know, i'm just heavily generalising, that's all. I've seen some pretty spectacular things done with animation and i'm in no way against it.

Yes yes, those cutscenes are brilliant. However I still believe that an entire movie using entirely these techniques may get tiring. However i'd love all those cutscenes to be re-created in a film and i'd like to see more of them as well.

Same here. That end sequence is one of the best i've ever seen in any game, or any animated feature for that matter.

An animated Thief would most probably suck. Just look at TDS-- they went for the cartoony look there vs the proverbial gritty realism of the originals, and AFAIK very few people considered it an improvement.
Live action is the way to go. Anyone else here seen Name of the Rose? That sort of art direction would work pretty well for Thief (with a dash of Brisco County Jr. thrown in for good measure).

Thanks for the recommend. You just love dashing adventurers don't you?

I feel ashamed. I didn't even realize the cinimatic styles of NWN:SoU/HOTU were the same as thief. :tsktsk:
Personaly if a movie was created I'm all for live action but I fear in the end it would look really cheesy and layout of the scenes done poorly. So my best hopes would be a really well done animated movie (or at least better than what a live action could turn out to be and yes, I share GBM's thoughts on this also) that looks like the Thief 1/2 cinamatics but I also like to see what other people think the universe would/should look like so I think maybe the movie could have a style similar to the new art direction D&D has been taking with Eberron examples:(

http://www.wizards.com/dnd/images/eb_gallery/82077.jpg) chapter 8 and (
http://www.wizards.com/dnd/images/eb_gallery/82078.jpg) chapter 9.
It wouldn't have to be exactly like this (maybe a combination of this and Rustmonkey's?) but It has a nity grity, steampunk feel about it that I think would work well for the thief universe.
I suddenly feel like Comicbook Guy. (
shudder)

You suddenly feel like a cheesey over-done joke by hack writers for an over-rated cartoon?
Remember, we're talking purely about visual style, not how a live-action movie might be shit overall etc. What would be the best form for the visual style assuming everything is done properly?

No, I feel like the lowliest form of geek. one who has no life and argue about who is hotter Janeway or Crusher. again (

Hey, I proudly admit to being a Geek. :-) And Picard is the hottest, hands down.
