Yes, shooting groups are fans. The shooting is private. That's why shooting at old sites is free usually. Budget is limited.

I visited the Czech Republic at the winter just past and came up with an interesting Thief-style story based on history and also a crazy WWII infused plot. I'll be really interested to follow this...

If there are going to be any sword fights, then please,
please watch some of these short downloadable videos first. Most historical fencing groups really get things wrong and use modern fabricated methods and rules and such.

TONY: Interesting, THANKS. I'll pass it to director...
Others: Thanks for your responses...

Tony, apart from those strike demonstrations that stuff was rapier fencing all the way. Now, I don't know what time period we have decided represents Thief the most, but the guards are clearly using broadswords, not rapiers. And broadsword fencing is far more similar to LotR than those videos you posted.
Not to say LotR is all that historically correct, naturally, but still...
EDIT: Having seen a couple of more videos, I am pretty sure one of those guys was a former Aikido/Bushido practitioner. Some of those moves and stances were far to "Japanese" to be European.

looks interresting
i hope you do get the look right
if indeed this is supposed to be a thief film based on The Thief franchise
aswell as acting - though, which can be fixed with a refined look
you could try conseal mouth areas for later dubbing by british/american crew
much like the original cutscenes were
when you have some stuff done, please share with the community and let us help where help is due

While most of the videos on that site were indeed of rapier fighting (not to be confused with modern fencing), the two I linked directly to in my post were not. Rapier combat does not include blows, as the edges of a rapier are simply not designed to cut. Those two videos which I directly linked are of sparring with expensive replica swords using stances and strikes out of medieval manuals. I quite agree that rapier combat has no place in Thief.

Now this is very false. Lord of the Rings, as well as King Arthur, Braveheart, and all of the other movies featuring swordfights, are completely and totally wrong as far as swords go. Static blocks are to be avoided at all costs, and are never recommended in period manuals. Indeed, it is only preferable to taking a cut, as it is certain that your sword will break under repeated abuse of that sort. And to actually deliberately strike another blade with full force blows - that makes static blocking look sane.
What they don't show you in the movies is that the blades that they use need replacement after every scene - and they aren't even sharp. Blunts are far more able to take abuse like that than sharps, and not even they can stand up to it.

Unless, presumably, they weren't in a position to do move the blade, in which case you could damage theirs if you were good enough?
