These kind of videos are bad enough for the Thief universe (mixing Thief with pop music, what're you thinking?) but it's going to be worse for these submitters when the RIAA, or similar organizations, catches wind of this :p
On Anime News Network, I found this on their website:
"Under existing copyright laws, AMVs contravene the copyrights of the anime and the music used in the video; unless the creator of the AMV has permission from the copyright holders to use said material, said material is part of the public domain, or the material is an original creation of the AMV creator."
(contravene means: to infringe, to violate)
Once you have made a music video, you have created something different that is a combination of audio and visual, and only infringes the rights if you make money, or prevent the copyright holders from making money. However, the copyright holders can still sue if they beleive it infringes their rights, so it usually ends up as a case by case basis as:
"Fair use involves subjective judgments and are often affected by factors such as a judge or jury 's personal sense of right or wrong." - (

An artist I know made a great example of this: Said Artist painted a picture of Spider-Man. Artist owns that particular image only, yet cannot sell it without permission from the owners because he does not own Spider-Man. Also, the owners (Marvel) cannot sell his painting (even though they own the character) without his permission because he owns that particular image.
However, on YouTube, someone has posted all the videos from the Thief: Dark Project game CD, this IS a violation!

So what are some songs that would fit the Thief Universe in a music video? I'm sure there are some where the lyrics fit, but the music does not.

Also, people have made MV's using clips from films. Isn't that worse than using clips from a game? I dont know, people confuse me :confused:

I was browsing youtube when I came across this. I think its pretty good, its an insight to what actually could be accomplished. Thief the movie. :)
