So, there is a lot of Thief Lore in existance, and pleanty of Easter Eggs to go around. We all know that.
I'd just like to have a place to list them. Things like the Alarus Extention and the peephole in the Soulforge. Then there's the ghost voices in the library (Masks and/or... that other one :erm: ). I dunno, stuff like that intrests me to some great degree. Here are the ones I can actually account for, as they are the only ones I have actually seen:
Alarus Extention - strange bit of a caved in tomb with a stone slab with "Alarus" on it
Aaaaaand that's about it.
I really never stuck around in that library to find out what those voices meant in the whole... thing.

This is where all the Easter Eggs will eventually be listed:

The Alarus Extension's not an EE, though.;)
The male apparition in the library is speaking Viki's lines from the major TDP/Gold cutscene backwards, like all the male apparitions do.
The female is speaking plain English, so that's not a secret or EE, but here's what she says to help you solve the library puzzle:
"Nobody knows, nobody sees."
"Love. To think it was all for love!"
"Nobody reads books these days."
"Terrible secrets, terrible secrets..."
"How long, how long?"

Aye, htanks, as always XD
Eeggs does help (though the spelling (yes, I know it's intentional) bothers me to no end)
Though, I am just looking for general areas of intrests in the game. As I have seen in some threads, I have to wonder about this statue in the Lost City.
So, maybe, I am just looking for some yummy screenshots XD However, I am just interested in general myths and legends of the Thief series, and who is better to ask than the people who have studied that Hag's glyph?

Ask away.
What do you already know about the Chthulhu statue in the Lost City? Or what do you want to know more about it?
TheGrimSmile on 7/6/2009 at 07:26
Well, I started this a long time ago (and looking at old threads makes me feel so stupid...) and I figured I shouldn't go making a new board if I had this one.
So, continuing the discussion, I was wondering about certain sounds in the games...
When looking through the Haunt sounds (specifically, the laughing bits) I thought of something:
The way the Haunts laugh, it sounds so sinister, so I was thinkin'... is that because they laughed like that while they did some sinful act, and that's why they're haunts?
Also, how did the Weilstorm get a recording of The Horn of Quintis? Doubt someone went down there with a pretty grand piano...

What i always wondered about is the bonehoard itself.
It's probably just me, but i wonder sometimes (about these primitive thoughts), why:
0)How did it get made? Who made it?
1)There are so many zombies (dead humans the day back i guess)
2)Why The Tomb is so big?
3)Why such design?
4)How did they all die there?
That's all I could remember at the moment. I posted this to maybe hear some of your thoughts.
Oh and I doubt someone could give You the answer to all the strange things. I think it's mostly up to our own imaginations.
Mine says the haunts laugh so hard because... well, 2 versions:
1)It sounds so classic evil, why not?
2)They did some "unholy" (atleast for hammerite standards) stuff and they got damned for all eternity so in time they went very mad.

I'd say the people from the city dug out those catacombs. Catacombs weren't that unusual in RL, used usually when there wasn't lots of space above-ground for a cemetary so they had to dig down.

Either the burial rites' powers wear off after a certain amount of time, and there is a special "magical" background radiation (or influence from the Eye or similar) that transforms the dead into zombies.
Or burricks, earthquakes, other thieves have disturbed the peace of the grave or destroyed some seals that warded off the necromantic influences, and therefore zombies formed.

2)Why The Tomb is so big?
Because lots of people died and needed a place to be buried.:joke:
And the rich families are often fond of building grand mausoleums for themselves.
Because they thought it looked nice :joke:

4)How did they all die there?
Everyone there except for (the corpses of) the thieves was already dead when laid to rest there. The thieves died there by trap, zombie or falling.

The Haunts are possessed Hammerite bodies. They rise up when their graves are desecrated. They aren't Hammers anymore.
2. Also, how did the Weilstorm get a recording of The Horn of Quintis? Doubt someone went down there with a pretty grand piano...
Garrett sold the Horn of Quintus (and used the money to get his first set of lockpicks). Whomever he sold it to did who knows what with it. We don't know how many times it's exchanged hands since Garrett sold it, but somebody made the recording. We also don't know how old the Horn is, how long it was in the Bonehoard, and how long it was from the time it was made until it was placed in the Bonehoard.

The Hammerites, for the most part, if not all of it.
1)There are so many zombies (dead humans the day back i guess)
The zombies, as they call them, include thieves and Hammerite Priests (who may have died fighting the zombies, as Hammerites and undead are often found together). Because it is a burial place for great noble families, thieves are always trying their hand at getting at the loot buried there. Five thieves died not too long before Garrett got there, for instance.
2)Why The Tomb is so big?
The Nobles probably want to bury generations of family there. Why are the pyramids so big?
3)Why such design?
To protect family interests and probably to collect large numbers of bodies in spaces where it's easy to see all the deceased family members at once, and probably to make it possible to bury many family members for decades to come.
4)How did they all die there?
The people that became zombies, you mean? If they were mostly grave robbers, then they obviously all died from all the traps and dangers builot into the place, as for the others, Hammerites and construction workers, and possibly family members trying to pay a visit.

Thanks for the answers, both.
Now I realize even more how silly part of my questions were. :p
One bonus thought: The tomb is so far down in the earth, so it must have happened quite a while ago.
jtr7 on 13/6/2009 at 23:40
Naw, it was just dug deep. There are places where the ceiling is right under the surface.
It's somewhat like Cragscleft where it's deep in the mountainside, with various entrances.
