I would recommend using Darkloader and not Garrettloader for T1/T2, but I have no idea if it will work with the Steam version of either.

Darkloader works like a charm with both Steam versions of TG and T2, but I haven't tried the GoG versions. I don't think they're very different though.

I'm so used to Garrettloader that I really want to stay with it. So I installed 1.41 and it appears to be working, though I haven't started really playing yet.
A problem turns up when I close Garrettloader then try to open it again.....
Run-time error '340';
Control array element '1' doesn't exist
Does this mean anything to anybody ?

Supposedly that error was fixed in the 1.42 beta version which is the last version released before Potterr disappeared. I am pretty sure that you can download that version from Darkfate. Version 1.42 isn't a full install, it is only the patched .exe file so you just need to download it, unzip it and copy it into your Garrettloader 1.41 folder and let it overwrite the 1.41 .exe.

Thanks Nickie & Tanner.
I have the 1.42 beta of Garrettloader in my quite hefty Thief Misc Folder that I carried over from my previous Windows construct. And YES :D, it did fix that particular problem.
Of course I'll need to play with it a while before declaring success.
Here's another question from a computer illiterate...
I found the folder that contained my saves from previous fan missions (allsave). But when I copied it into my new Thief folder (now imbedded in the Steam Folder), those saves do not appear when I run the game. Is there something else I need to do?
Also, what is the file that contains the configuration for playing Thief ie) where is the record kept for customizing the keys. I'd rather just copy that file over to my new Thief folder than start over again.
Thanks again
Cheers

The allsaves folder has your old saves from when you used Darkloader but I don't know if GL also uses it. So since you're using GL now, those saves will not get installed with the mission if that's the case.

I've never used Darkloader. Or at least not since Garrettloader arrived years ago. Perhaps I need to install Garrettloader in the Thief folder. I seem to recall reading where you should do that. Right now, it's in the Programs(x86) folder.

If you're talking about keybinds, mine are in user.bnd I think. In user.something anyway. Not the USER in capitals file. If you're talking about something else then, sorry. :D

I couldn't find a user.bnd anywhere, but it doesn't matter. I forgot that when you run Thief itself, you can load pre-defined keybinds in the customize controls section, which is baffling because how did the new install of Thief (through Steam) find that file which I had saved in a previous install.
Anyway, my customized keybinds seem to be there.
