Hilo,
I'm an Apple zealot, who keeps a tame Windows box around to play games on, and am almost ready to upgrade to an Intel Mac and ditch my Windows machine entirely.
The Intel Macs allow the user to boot into Windows but I'm a bit concerned about getting Thief TDP and Thief II running on it. On my Windows machine, under WinXP, I need to flip one of the processors off, and do some other fiddling, to get the games to run properly, and because these Dual Core machines are so bloody fast, I'm worried about compatibility.
Is anyone here running these games on an Intel Mac and does it run well? Or am I going to have to keep a snapshot Windows machine around and maintained, if I want to keep playing Thief games?

i would expect it to run fine
afterall, it's not using any special new technology
isn't there wine for intel macs, or similiar software, which could run it directly?
complete virtualized systems is a bit of an overkill
the future, sure, but has an overhead still, until hardware acceleration comes around

I can't see how it will be a problem to run it on the intel mac...considering you have the ability to dual boot into either Mac OS or Windows natively. :) Best of both worlds.

Wow! Mac jokes. I've never heard those before.
A computer is just a tool, not a declaration of ones ideology. Pick the tool that best suits your workflow and aesthetic taste. The fact that I prefer Apple doesn't mean I think Microsoft is evil or that Windows boxes are shit. It means I believe OS X is the best choice for the work I do and the way I process and manage data.
The world isn't binary, kids; you're allowed to like more than one thing at a time. :D

Im a Mac/Pc engineer so I am familer with both platforms in detail.
If I had the spare cash I would buy an Intell mac and get rid of my aging G4.
(That said ive just seen a mac mini on ebay for £200, so maybe I'll flog my old mac and some other stuff and get one)1. what intel based mac have you got..?
2. have you checked to see if windows sees the graphics card and are you able to install the latest drivers for that card..?
3. have you run any other common benchmarks, HDtach, Sandra, Everest, 3dmark.
Sorry about all the questions but as your not in the Uk I cant see formyself in person etc. And while Im on the subject are there any other taffers with an intel mac as i would love to do all the above and try and get thief working on it.

A quick update, in case anyone else is wondering, all three Thief games run beautifully on an Intel iMac, core duo. In fact, there was less fiddling than there had been on my old Pentium4. For Thief 2, I didn't need to apply the 'movie fix' autoexec bat, or fiddle around with commenting out processors, I just installed and away we went.
It's a great relief to me that I won't need to keep a snapsot Win32 machine laying around just to play these games I love.
Rest.
