Thief on linux... New plan - by Albert

I'm not really all that mad. The only thing that makes me mad is the fact that we always need something to go into detail about. Now, I'll admit I'm not so innocent when it comes to this sort of stuff, and yet I get a tad annoyed when someone needs to disprove me fruitlessly.
Where did I try to 'disprove' you fruitlessly? It had nothing to do with 'disproving' YOU, for God's sake. I asked a simple question, and stated a few things we know to be true about the Thief engine. If OPDE supports multiple platforms, and if it's finished...then of course some kind of installer can be created.
You didn't make it clear whether you were talking about the original engine or OPDE, you talked about fixes for the original engine...so how was I to know you were referring to OPDE when you mentioned LOKI.
Anyway, you usually come off as rather aggressive in your posts anyway, so I don't know why I'm surprised by your reaction.
Forget I said anything.

Sorry, I don't mean to sound aggressive. your victimizing me here when I'm clearly trying to call off this whole goddamn argument... If you can even call it one.
I see you've given up, so I'll join in (to your chagrin).
(I.E, Let's all shut up and let this thread build naturally...)
BTW, NH: I meant that thread as an example for all. Not just for me, so it wasn't an argument on my sake, but to represent all those who have similar ordeals. Maybe a "Anybody ever feel like etc. etc." or a "Hey dumbs***'s, this following text may hopefully represent similar things you have problems with in a day-to-day basis" at the beginning of that post would've helped? Yeah, I bet that would've.
But, given we seem to all be speaking different tongues, let me just say that I have nothing against you, and that this is an idiotic matter of misunderstanding.
In fact, I'm dissapointed with this thread. I intended it to become a springboard for some positive development of new developments in the community, but considering that OPDE's announcement thread is outsized by the overrated TDM beta release thread, I'm feeling greatly embittered by the blunt disillusioned tone of most of those who lurk the boards.
(Also, this is the most informative amount of writing I've done in a while. Now, I'm not targeting this squarely at you, Nameless. I'm targeting it to all those guy's who probably didn't start off as Thief fans. They merely stumbled upon SS2, or that flight sim game, and then stumbled upon thief...)
(I love writing, and making additions thus... can you tell?)
(P.P.S: What was that flight sim, anyway?)
(P.P.P.S: Thompson's spinning in his grave over this appalling post)

Anyone ever look into an opengl wrapper to get Thief running on linux in a more direct fashion?
Don't know how it would work, but...

(Excited this topic has rebooted quietly)
I've tried that before, but it's never worked. I dunno how it could possibly work, unless we learned to modify Wine somehow.

I do wonder if the longer than usual loading times issue is related to wine's 2d acceleration...
The dark engine games are the only ones that I've ever seen take longer to load under wine than windows. Perhaps, if there is some way to disable the animated load screens? I wonder if this would speed it up.

Oh, I thought I deleted this post...
Sorry, lemme try this again...
I have another laptop with Linux. (

(Also, the cursor only appears in screenshots. No, I have no clue how to hide it.)
Also, lost_soul, I've noticed quite recently how slow the menus can be, simply on my old computer with Si02's DDFIX patch. Really, it is unbearably slow.
As for that screenshot. Yes, the game works fine, however, it runs very slow, and I'm betting it's because of linux being set to 24bit mode. Does anyone know how to set it to 16bit?`

Maybe actually getting off my lazy rear end and resizing the resulting photographic evidence to forum standards will help... Maybe?

Anyone?
