Steam's got a sale on Thief right now, the whole collection for 6.50, and as I constantly lose my discs I'm wondering if a digital backup might be a good idea. my chief concern is that tweaking or patching the game might be hard or impossible on a steam installation. Anyone know if you can fiddle with files on steam games?

You can do everything you want with Thief on Steam, and Steam isn't even required to play the games once they're installed. ;)

I happen to know EXACTLY where my discs are … yet still I'm tempted by this sale!

Hmmmm
Thief and Thief 2 get brand new patches from out of nowhere. Then Steam has them on sale not a week later?
I wanna call shenanigans...

Why complain? I say support them. That's dirt cheap. Now if they had raised the price, then I would call foul. But to lower it? Uh uh.

ooooh, no, I'm not complaining... I'm insinuating that the guys at Valve may have had something to do with our little gift!
As horrendously unlikely as that is. =)

Heh, no doubt they are exploiting the spike in interest for profit, instead.

Bah this is great for everyone else but I am pissed I paid 26.99 two days ago :(
That being said I downloaded thief Gold and Thief 2 just to see and you can do whatever you want.
I havent looked at thief3 yet.

Well, Doug Church is at Valve, so if you wanna look at it from that angle.
Though I'm sure he's busy with things there other than Steam.

Well it's on sale again, so I got it for peace of mind. Never know when your CD's time will be up. :tsktsk:
