Well it's on sale again, so I got it for peace of mind. Never know when your CD's time will be up. :tsktsk:
That's what ISO backups are for ;)

I haven't used my CDs in years.. Other than recently whipping out a thief 2 disc for dromed.zip
I have a complete thief 2 fresh full install backed up on my hard drive. That said, if I ever need to rebuy thief I know where to look.:p

ooooh, no, I'm not complaining... I'm insinuating that the guys at Valve may have had something to do with our little gift!
As horrendously unlikely as that is. =)
More likely Valve are just smart enough to spot an opportunity after seeing the patches.

Steam sales are arranged for a couple of months ahead and the schedule is tight, daily sales happen, well, daily. I really doubt that someone at square enix noticed these patches, called Valve, and they responded like 'sure, why not, we'll throw away that crappy sale tomorrow and feature this Thief collection instead'. That's not how corporations work :)

Steam isn't even required to play the games once they're installed. ;)

Just go to the directory where they are installed and run the executable.

Steam's got a sale on Thief right now, the whole collection for 6.50, and as I constantly lose my discs I'm wondering if a digital backup might be a good idea. my chief concern is that tweaking or patching the game might be hard or impossible on a steam installation. Anyone know if you can fiddle with files on steam games?
Yep, you can fiddle with them till your heart's content. Even make a 2nd, 3rd, or 4th install somewhere, wherever you like. Just copy and go. Patch, update, keep one installation for Dromed'ing, another for playing, etc. Very flexible.
