If I were to connect my laptop computer to my television via VGA connection, would I be able to play games, especially Thief, in a satisfactory manner? Or would the image be stretched? If so, would it only be a matter of tinkering with resolutions and the like? Will I encounter any other problems?
Thanks, Michael

Try it and find out. Seriously though, it's going to depend on your televsion...the age...etc. I don't understand why people come here to ask a question like this, when all they have to do is try it for themselves to get the answer.

Maybe so, but why would I purchase a VGA cable without first knowing that it's actually going to work? Especially considering the age of the game.

You could always return the cable if it doesn't work. You may have to try that, as I don't of anyone here who's tried.
Waits for someone to come in and...

It works fine but if you have a regular TV you'll need to run things at low resolution. And I assume you mean to say "S-Video" cable (which are super cheap anyway). I used to play on a 27" standard def tv before I got a newer HDTV
If in fact you do mean VGA (because you have an HDTV with a VGA input), then it will work great and you can then use higher resolutions. I do this currently with my setup, using my LCD TV as basically a huge monitor, very nice!

I recently got my first HDTV (32") and should really try this out I guess...

I also use a Xbox 360 controller (just a USB gamepad), with Pinnacle Game Profiler to set up everything, and play PC games console style, very fun stuff. I played all of T2X this way, and am currently loving Gothic 3 this way.

Yeah, Thief doesn't do widescreen resolutions, too bad there. But I've gotten used to stretched games, so it can pretty much look normal to me now either way, so I prefer stretched just to make it all bigger :)
