Unfortunately Ominous Cowl is correct with regard to this: there is simpy no financial incentive for Eidos to go back and find the Thief source code, package it into a form suitable for release, consult with their legal team to ensure that they are able to release it and that the license it suitable, and all the other necessary steps in making the code public.
The only reason T3Ed was released was that there were still developers working there who wanted to help the community, who did the work (presumably in their spare time) as a favour. That is certainly not going to be the case with the Dark Engine source, since both LGS and now ISA have been shut down.

Yeah but it would be a major PR boost for eidos *spit*... i might even stop spitting when I mention their accursed name (I suppose i could consider cutting out the cursing too). Why haven’t i seen this petition before? - hell yeah! Go on *spit* eidos before tomb raider flops and you go bust (which is what you deserve you damned murderers of creativity)!

Signed. #411
I was glad there was a petition that does not need registering. Maybe Ataricom can edit the first post with the correct petition link.

Done and done.

Signature #421 is up!
Gave Eidos some marketing-type speak which I think/hope they'll relate to.

Now, most certainly, they will not even consider releasing the sources.
@all: If you are really up to programming, why do you not join the DarkMod crew? Well, I can see the
nostalgia in modifying the old code, but developing something entirely new is more challenging and rewarding.
You are too optimistic on this matter, is is so obvious that Eidos
will simply not do it. Therefore, I did not sign your petition.

Besides, an online petition is also mostly useless. It can easily be faked, and therefore 400 signatures mean nothing at all.

Then you don't recall that an online petition saw the release of the original Thief editor, and T3Ed. Online petitions do make a difference, it just depends on whether or not you can find the right person within Eidos to root for you.

Are you finished, Ominous Cowl? You clearly made your point!
We may be optimistic, but your constant negative respons really makes no sense. Next time, don't forget the edit button.
There's no need for you to sign this petition, leave that to the rest of us.
Come on everyone,
When this petition recieves 500 signs, or more hopefully, Ataricom will send this to Eidos and we'll see what happens next :thumb:
