I asked this question in the Thief technical forum at Eidos:
My Post:
Could eidos port Thief I and II to Macintosh?
I recently switched to Mac and noted their low selection of desktop games; some of the existing games are even ports of older pc games.
I was wondering if you might consider porting the older Thief games to Mac,
as they did with Baldurs Gate and Neverwinter Nights in 2003. Robin Hood in 2004.
Now World of Warcraft and these "design your own world" games in 2006 and 7 :P.
I just think the old Thief games would hold up against most current mac games and could be played by those with simpler video cards.

Moderator Response:
Eidos is a publisher, not a developer. The development companies for all Thief versions are out of business. I am afraid your wish will never come true unless (a) Eidos releases the source, and (b) some altruistic person makes a port. The source has not been released, but I think it is about time. That is what you should petition for. In the meanwhile, perhaps a PC emulator would work.
I am not an Eidos employee, so I have no influence.

Well he thinks its about time.....
So is anyone up for a petition, not to mention does anyone know how I'd go about it?
Secondly even if you don't already have a Mac it would still be a good thing (and a good petition to sign anyway) because they'd have to make the game work for software for 2008, which keeps the older thiefs in circulation in some way.
Maybe they'd even re-release it for pc again as long as they were going to port it to macintosh. Maybe not, but who knows.
So, what do you think?
A worthy objective?

since the chances of it happening about as likely as me getting a private urinal that i can piss in while virgins lick cream from my nipples and i can watch CSI on a screen above it, i would suggest going back to PC.

I think any petiton about Thief will get great results here, it can't hurt anyway!
I say take a stab at it, let em know Thief is still popular.

Anyone else got any private fantasies they'd like to share with us:joke:
Dethtoll's right though. It's about as likely to happen as g.bush winning in iraq.:cheeky:

Sorry, I love my new mac (hugs screen).
What about petitioning whoever ported Baldurs to offer to buy the rights to port Thief, or something like that?
I can't believe Eidos would be against making money on resurecting a game.
:p

They wouldn't. The trouble is that they probably wouldn't make any money, because the costs involved in doing the port would be more than the sales they would get from Mac users.

Thief runs fine on a Mac running Bootcamp anyway. It would be a massive exercise in pointlessness for Eidos to port Thief to OSX, and I'm a Mac user!

Oh, well, I sent a message to MacPlay anyway asking if they do their porting/and if not then who does it, and telling them how great Thief is.
They sell all the ported games.
But probably all Mac games are ported from PC games anyway :P
I talked up this fan site and the large number of fan missions you do, so put bow ties on in case they check out The Circle.
I think Eidos would go for it, because A) Thief--a game already made--can make them some more possible dollars without any effort on their part.
B) There are 3 Thiefs and if a Mac company picks up Thief I and II, then what about III? It got some nice reviews. So there is potential for the whole series.
So the whole thing is getting MacPlay to want it. Maybe get them to want Thief Deadly Shadows first instead and pick up I and II in a package deal.. If they wanted Baldur's Gate they are just as likely to take Thief. Baldurs is like a sims rpg.
